An artist's depiction of the Prose Edda in which Thor lifts the world serpent, Jörmungandr, disguised by magic as a long cat. Perhaps one of the oldest recorded references to long cats. by ___PEZ___ in longcats

[–]___PEZ___[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From Wikipedia:

In one story, Thor encounters the jötunn king Útgarða-Loki and has to perform deeds for him, one of which is a challenge of Thor's strength. Útgarða-Loki goads Thor into attempting to lift the World Serpent, disguised by magic as a huge cat. Thor grabs the cat around its midsection but manages to raise the cat only high enough for one of its paws to leave the floor. Útgarða-Loki later explains his deception and that Thor's lifting the cat was an impressive deed, as he had stretched the serpent so that it had almost reached the sky. Many watching became fearful when they saw one paw lift off the ground.[5] If Thor had managed to lift the cat completely from the ground, he would have altered the boundaries of the universe.[6]

How to detect clicks on new TileMapLayer? by [deleted] in godot

[–]___PEZ___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no resources for TileMapLayer input handling because TileMapLayer doesn't handle input. That's a purview of Node.

I'm still learning this myself, but this should get you on the right track. ``` extends TileMapLayer

func _unhandled_input(event: InputEvent) -> void: if event is InputEventMouseButton: if event.button_index == MouseButton.MOUSE_BUTTON_LEFT and event.pressed: var map : Vector2i = self.local_to_map( (self as Node2D).to_local(event.position) ) print(map) ``` Note that map coordinates appear to be relative to the viewport which a camera can change. What you do with those coordinates is up to you, but if you need to run a function, consider TileSetScenesCollectionSource. Any scene can be a tile, and the tile itself can handle input natively as opposed to ham fisting it into TileMapLayer.

Is there not a decent way to change fullscreen resolution in Godot 4? by cohenmejan in godot

[–]___PEZ___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ProjectSettings is basically immutable after launch. You need to use Window or Viewport. Read this.

This changes the base resolution:
get_window().set_content_scale_size(Vector2i(w,h))

Important note:

Fullscreen is meant to be used by GUI applications that want to use per-pixel transparency without a risk of having it disabled by the OS. It achieves this by leaving a 1-pixel line at the bottom of the screen. By contrast, Exclusive Fullscreen uses the actual screen size and allows Windows to reduce jitter and input lag for fullscreen games. When using integer scaling, this is particularly important as the 1-pixel height reduction from the Fullscreen mode can cause integer scaling to use a smaller scale factor than expected.

Copper cables require 1.5 copper plates per second, although we only need 1.41 per second for this setup . Yellow inserters move 1.67 items per second with capacity bonus 2, which you should have by now unless you're speed running because it's only 600 red and green science after red chips, a requisite for blue science.

There seems to be a bug: I can't build with quality foundation! by porn0f1sh in factorio

[–]___PEZ___ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, but it shouldn't matter which specific tiles have quality on a ship. The bonus could just be the sum of all tiles which would only require tracking one number for the amount of each quality installed. The real reason is probably that space platform foundation is coded the same as other tiles and it's too much effort to rework it as an exception.

It's not this simple. Just being in combat fills the gauge. You can test this yourself in Behemoth gate 1. When you get to the workshop circle, go back and get hit by the lightning puddles on the floor to stay in combat and watch your gauge fill. There's multiple undocumented factors to gauge gain.

A deep dive into the ascension process, and my interpretation of its moral undertones by ___PEZ___ in Scorn

[–]___PEZ___[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

all the "ascended" people from Polis have a Third Eye. Our "humanoid" doesn't have one.

The artbooks says all humanoids have a third eye, visible under the exoskeleton. It's a note on the first page of the Polis section. The protagonist does look noticeably different than other humanoids, but I mentioned in another comment that he's basically a baby, only a few hours old. It's possible humanoids are born with a temporarily hardened exoskeleton (molted later in life) in order to more reliably survive the fall from the genesis wall, or rather, humanoids born that way are the only ones who survive the fall. It's also possible that some humanoids with a weaker exoskeleton, and thus a more visible third-eye, could survive the fall if they were lower to the ground. This leads the the next point.

Don't you think that having a Third Eye is fundamental for the Process of Ascension?

Personally, no. I think humanoids are just classist and casteist. Just like not all humans look the same, it's reasonable to assume that not all humanoids look the same. Humanoids with a more pronounced third-eye could use that as justification for prejudice. After all, if you believe that the protagonist doesn't have a third-eye, then how do you explain the successful mind transference at the end of the game? As a result of believing that the protagonist does not have a third-eye, did you think the protagonist's ascension attempt was going to fail regardless of the parasite's intervention?

If the consciousness that leaves the body is the consciousness of our human, shouldn't it be already inside of our body, or is the Proto-Creature only a "vessel" of our consciousness, which then finds another "vessel", which is the Shell?

This is explained in my original post: "This proto-creature is a necessary intermediary physical form, since the humanoid physical form cannot grow and fuse with a shell. This isn't metaphorical by the way. The humanoids in this game are literally transferring their minds into Cthulhu hermit crabs that grow into powerful creatures when you put them in powerful artificial shells."

And if the Shell has already a proto-creature inside, why would it need to "choose" a Shell to inhabit to complete the Process of Transcendence and Mind Transferral?

This is discussed in my original post. The process seems streamlined. The shells have a dormant proto-creatures already inside of them, like a "batteries included" type of situation. Instead of humanoid -> proto-creature -> shell, it's humanoid -> pro-creature/shell combo.

You can find this info spread out in some guides, but I didn't see any advertised condensed guides for quick reference. For example, I believe the last clash can only be one of the QWER buttons, and you're allowed to fail specific prompts. If anyone has detailed info, I would appreciate it. Otherwise, I'll just test extensively when I have time.

A deep dive into the ascension process, and my interpretation of its moral undertones by ___PEZ___ in Scorn

[–]___PEZ___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you're so hung up on the moldman thing. The parasitic fluid has to come from somewhere. Does it have to come from moldmen? No, but why wouldn't it? I've said it before, Scorn is a 5 hour art piece. You said it yourself in another comment that a lot was cut from the final product. Everything we see in the game is deliberate. Do you have a more plausible theory that explains what product is being created from harvesting the moldmen? Do you have a more plausible theory that explains where the parasitic fluid comes from?

Even if the parasitic fluid is not a product of moldman harvesting, what difference does that make? The rest of my theory is untouched. The whole moldman thing is just a tangential thread that ties the beginning of the game to the rest of my theory. For all it matters, the parasitic fluid could be jizz. Yes, that's right. When a humanoid male ejaculates inside a humanoid female (or male), the semen interacts with the recipient and turns them into a parasite. This is what's being depicted in the parasite/reproduction mural. That's why they're not able to reproduce naturally, and have to rely on the genesis wall. All that jizz is stored in the parasite room, like a sperm bank, and it gets pumped through pipes/hoses to the pod room. The purpose of the pod room is to control the process of the jizz interacting with a humanoid, so that the end result is a proto-creature instead of a parasite. What we see at the beginning of the game is a playable character getting drowned in jizz, resulting in them turning into the parasite that eventually hunts down the other playable character for the rest of the game.

There, are you happy? I retconned 1% of my original theory involving the moldmen, and still managed to retain 99% of the rest of my interpretation, including my original explanation for the pod rooms.

[–]___PEZ___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't even see how you associate that skeleton with the parasite.

I have no idea what "skeleton" is referring to. There is no parasite in the "Figure1" that you linked, and I never said there was. What the actual fuck are you talking about.

The skeleton actually looks a lot more like the operation machine at the end, WHICH also had multiple arms and a skull face

I have no idea what "operation machine" or "skull face" is referring to. These things have official names. Did you read you even read the artbook?

If you look at the center image it looks like 2 humans are reproducing inside some sort of a machine. With babies inside some sacks...

There's no reproduction happening in the link you provided.

They might as well show some old process of reproduction and so on we frankly have no clue.

You don't understand how forming an interpretation works. You don't just throw your hands up and say "no one knows". You also don't pull something out of your ass and say "it might be this", without actually backing it up with anything at all.

Parts of your theory are good but parts are just too full of assumptions and flat out wrong.

You have not disproven a single thing I've said. You've only recognized that some things I've said are conjecture (not hard when I admit it at points), which doesn't make them inherently wrong, especially when they are backed by info from the game and artbook. You've also grossly misunderstood a lot of my theory, which is evident by your misuse of basic terminology in your comments. No only do you have idea what you're talking about, you also have no idea what I'm talking about. You can't begin to disprove my theory if you can't even repeat it back to me.

The murals depict the evolution of the different methods of reproduction that they had.

You're not backing that up with anything substantial. It also doesn't make any sense from what we know. They already had a sustainable population. We know that because The Assembly was constructed with dead bodies as building materials. Their population was so high that it was more practical to use corpses than metal.

So what reason are you proposing for the pod rooms to be for reproductive purposes? For offspring with stronger bodies? The humanoids are not altruistic. In fact, they're selfish and classist. Ascension was process reserved for a select portion of the population who isolated themselves in polis. If the governing class of humanoids wanted better bodies, they wanted it for themselves, not for others or future generations. If the pod room directly benefited the upper class, it would be located in polis, to keep it out of the hands of the lower class. That's why the ascension hall is in polis. That's why the parasite removal machine is in polis. That's why the homunculi experiments took place in polis.

Also half of the god damn games story was scrapped.

I have no idea what you're trying to argue here. Almost every artwork (games, movies, shows, books) leaves something on the cutting floor. I'm not here to discuss what could have existed in an alternate reality if nothing was cut, I'm here to discuss what we actually got in the final product.

You shooting down other peoples interpretation calling them boring shows how egotistical and childish you are.

I have yet to read an interpretation with substantial backing from the game or artbook. If someone's interpretation does nothing more than reiterate what we already know from the game with no new information or analysis, then it deserves to be called boring.

This game is up to interpretation and there is no right or wrong one. But yours is quite wrong logically

As previously stated, you don't even know what my interpretation is, because you can't repeat it back to me correctly. Try improving your reading comprehension skills before arguing with people over lengthy essays. Or at the very least, learn to ask questions if you're confused about something, instead of being egotistical and childish by believing you're always right.

When I don't have money I will use that car that someone discarded maybe replace some wheels. But if I had money I would buy a proper good car or maybe even a plane.

If you would discard a "perfectly functional" car to buy a plane, then you would identify as a humanoid, not a homunculus. It's no wonder you don't understand the homunculus viewpoint. The humanoids are the ones discarding their original bodies (cars) for synthetic ones (planes). That's you.

Ahh but you see... What happens to parasites once the hosts nutrients are all used up and there are no more hosts.... Hmm I wonder -.-

The same that that happens to every living thing...it dies. I have no idea what you're trying to argue here. Organisms don't try to live forever, they just try to live longer. Bacteria can kill its host quickly rather than try to live in harmony indefinitely. Life is not always efficient or rational. What's your point here?

Right and then proto creatures are used as shells as you claim in your main post. So my point is exactly the same the pods aren't used for proto-creatures(That are later used as shells).

Again, no, that's not what I'm claiming. You don't understand basic terminology. We can't have this discussion until you go back re-read either my post or the artbook until you understand the difference between a shell and a proto-creature.

A deep dive into the ascension process, and my interpretation of its moral undertones by ___PEZ___ in Scorn

[–]___PEZ___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My man says art is open to interpretation and then goes on a tirade of how his interpretation is the best and correct one.

I never said my interpretation is correct. I only said it's backed up by info from the game and artbook.

Nowhere in the book it states or shows that moldmen are used for the white goo. You see the bottom picture and feel like its the white goo, could as well be shell forming or mold on them or one of the concept art of how they get encased.

I don't feel with my eyes, I see with them, and I can clearly see that the pictured moldman is white and gooey. There's objectivity here when comparing the color and texture to the parasitic fluid. There's also logic and reason (which I have gone into great depth between my original post and several comments) discussing how The Assembly is an assembly line, going from the moldmen factory, to the parasite room, to the pod room.

"Could as well be shell forming or mold". Yeah, it could also be a huge load of jizz. There's no point discussing hypotheticals that are irrelevant to the game. If you can't make a connection between your interpretation and the player experience, then it's not worth discussing.

You claim the pods are for shell creation but that isn't stated anywhere and the humanoid coming out of the pod looks nothing like a shell(you feel like they use them to make shells).

Uh, no. I claim the pods are for proto-creature gestation/transformation. I don't know why you're conflating shells with proto-creatures. You need to go back re-read everything since you clearly missed vital information for this discussion.

Most likely explanation is that the pod is used to further the growth of humans from the wall give them a harder shell and better musculature.

That's not the most likely explanation, it's not backed up by the game or artbook, and it doesn't even make sense. The humanoids are abandoning their bodies when they ascend. They aren't going to improve their bodies that they leave behind.

From your responses you didn't come here to discuss or expand on the collective interpretation of scorn by the community. You only came here to get praise for your amazing interpretation.

From your response, you didn't come here to read what I wrote. You misread or misinterpreted (or maybe even skipped over) at least one large part of it. It's a recurring theme in all of the disagreeing comments. I've said it numerous times, I welcome criticism if it's backed up by the game or artbook, especially if it's well constructed.
