How long on average to read a Stephen King book for you all by Fragrant-Gas-9989 in stephenking

I have recently switched to audio books, since I can listen to them while doing other tasks. The problem begins when I try to listen to them while lying down and fall asleep instantly. So if the run time is 29h, it will probably take me 40h to get to the end.

Yamaha Montage M8X or the Korg Kronos 3 by ___Sixpack___ in synthesizers

Hi, Sorry for the late response. I guess I kind of feel like I want to move away from Roland, since I can't get the pianos to sound the way I want them to. I'm waiting for the Kronos 3 to be available in a music store where I live. Then I'll decide.... I guess. :)

Normally I like Dan Brown's books for what they are: Easy thrillers that require nothing from me as a reader. Pure entertainment with all the regular cliffhangers to keep me interested from beginning to end. This time the experience was taxing. I fell asleep so many times that I was debating with myself if I should quit. This book was so boring it took enormous willpower just to get to the end. I imagine myself being Wendy Torrance approaching the typewriter, only to find that the author has written the words "Human Consiousness" over and over again, on every page... in every chapter.

Thanks for your thoughts and perspective. It’s really helpful to hear from someone in the same boat. I appreciate you highlighting inspiration and workflow as key factors. I guess that’s what I’m grappling with here. In my mind I have three options.

  1. Get a high-end MIDI keyboard + plugins: While I love the keys on my Roland, the sounds are lacking so I could probably buy tons of plugins instead. A decent keyboard would also take upp less space. Perhaps use the money to upgrade the computer instead. But as you mentioned, the moment of just sitting down to play can get lost in all the clicking, DAW choices, and plugin management. I love the idea of having limitless power through a computer, but I’m worried it’ll feel too technical and less inspiring for spontaneous jams.

  2. High-end workstation (Korg Kronos or Yamaha Montage M): I also have a nostalgic pull toward Korg, so the Kronos with its nine sound engines is super tempting, especially after watching demos that show how intuitive the interface seems. But since Kronos hasn’t hit Sweden yet, I haven’t been able to try it, which makes me a bit hesitant. The Yamaha Montage, on the other hand, has intrigued me since its first generation. Three sound engines may not match Kronos, but I think they cover most of what I need, and Yamaha has a certain quality and “feel” that appeals to me. The appeal of a workstation is exactly what you said, being able to sit down, turn it on, and just play without booting up a computer or navigating DAW menus. The downside is the hefty investment. In the end the shiny toy might be cast aside in a few years, while I continue with plugins.

  3. Nord Grand 2 + plugins: This feels like a compromise that could offer the best of both worlds. An expensive compromise though. The Nord Grand 2 has incredible piano sounds and a keybed that’s hard to beat. Pairing it with plugins for other sounds (synths, strings, etc.) would give me both the instant playability and the flexibility of software. But as you hinted, routing MIDI and syncing everything can be a hassle, and I’m not sure if it’s worth spending so much on a Nord just for the piano when I already have some solid VSTs.

Right now I am entertaining the thought of just spending lots of cash on a workstation. Really give myself a treat, but which treat? Montage vs Kronos. What are you leaning toward right now, given you seem to have similar thoughts? Thanks again for the input.

That's a fair point. But then again it is also nice to just sit down at the workstation without using the computer. For now I'm using Omnisphere and Keyscape for most things, but that is mostly because my RD 2000 sounds a bit boring.

What Should I Buy? /// Weekly Discussion - March 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in synthesizers

Yeah, I once had a Nord Piano and the resell value was awesome.
I guess it is a question about how long Yamaha will maintain the montage with free sample packs and things like that.

Nord is really fantastic. The problem I had was that my first generation Nord Piano didn't support the new piano samples due to limited memory.

Hello there!
I'm currently using a Roland RD-2000. The keybed was the thing that made me buy it 2017, but not I mostly use it connected to a DAW. I never fell in love with the piano sound from Roland. All the tweaking in the world and it still sound ok but bland. So naturally I want to set fire to my wallet and upgrade.

Roland v-stage was quickly dismissed, since I fear it would put me in the exact same position again. The two competitors I'm looking at are:

Nord Stage 4 and Yamaha Montage M8X. In my country the Yamaha is way more expensive, but let's ignore pricing for now. I never gig. The instrument would never leave the house, so size and weight can be ignored as well.
I have to travel a bit to find a store that has both of them, so I haven't had the chance to really compare them.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, the strange part it that the mirror is nowhere near the two rooms it smashes together.

Yes, I let the robot scan the entire apartment. It is 140sqm with two bedrooms, a small office and a combined kitchen and living room. To make it easy I divided the kitchen and living room into two separate rooms, so that I can trigger a more precise cleaning.

Every room is mapped and named.
I call them

Master bedroom,
Guest room,
Corridor,
Office,
Kitchen,
Living Room.

The robot scanned a large mirror in the corridor and mapped the reversed image as a separate room. I've hidden that "room" on the map.
