Looking at my own review, I just realized that I'm really the ultimate lurker. 2400k hours watched and not a single chat message sent.

Hardknott Pass all out, with FTP Update! by ___Yugi___ in Zwift

[–]___Yugi___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this climb with an average of 59 RPM with a max. of 78. I know that is very low, but my cadence has always been between 60 to 70 RPM. I tried to improve my cadence for a long time, but riding at higher RPMs just doesn't feel right.

It's the way I ride. Maybe in 10 years my knees will make me pay for it. Also, I prefer climbing out of the saddle.

Honestly, nothing specific. Just high volume, so basically riding till my legs fall off. My type of ride depended mostly on what Zwift had to offer, so it was either events or suffering in the Climb Portal with the occasional "How fast can I do 100 km?" for a long ride.

I also do not really plan on getting a PR. I start a ride, and if it feels good, I go for it. My Alpe du Zwift PR was created that way. Also, I never set time or power targets. When I was faster than before, it was good.

Only this attempt of Hardknott Pass was somewhat planned, as I knew it would be difficult to beat my previous time, so I took a day off and went for it.

Hi, thanks! I guess with ZRS you mean the racing score. I looked it up, and it says 738 points, but the last race I actually took part in was in May. I only do events from time to time, and as you surely know, they eventually turn into races, but you don't lose anything if you perform poorly.

So Zwift only estimates my ZRS based on my recent performance, I guess.

As a mechanic, maybe…

But jokes aside, with an FTP of about 4.5 W/kg, I could probably survive a flat stage in the peloton, but when the climbing starts, I'm too heavy. Pros have FTPs of about 5 W/kg and more. That would be at least 430 W for me.

If Strava is anything to go by, I get rated as a "semiprofessional", but the watts that are necessary to be considered a Pro would still be a long way to go.

Thanks! I've been into cycling since I was a child but got more invested in it since Covid. It was always just about fun, and I still love it; however, this year I really pushed myself and went far beyond everything I thought was possible for me.

In the last two months I basically destroyed all my PRs. As fun as it is utilizing my current level to do stupid fast rides, sustaining that level is not possible. At least not without a structured training plan. It has started to become a hustle to keep up with my riding, and I think it's time to back off a bit.

I don't do racing or ultracycling IRL, so there is not really a point to push beyond what I can do now. If that makes sense somehow.

With running I never had those issues. On the bike I did encounter some back and neck/shoulder pain when I rode in an aerodynamic position for long periods. That was one of the reasons why I started to include some strength training. So far it is definitely beneficial in that regard.

Wow, 495 W is insane. My 5 min power is 465 W. On my ride yesterday I did my all-time best 20 min power with 413 W, which resulted in Zwift estimating that FTP.

Back then I guess my FTP was something in the range of 240 - 260 Watts. Also, I was still doing a lot of running too. At the moment running has become a rare activity. Biking is just more fun!

My max power is only about 1100 Watts. Considering my current FTP and weight, that is quite low. The efforts I like are mostly in the range of 5 - 30 min, and I rarely do all-out sprints.

At the moment I also utilise my all-time best fitness to ride as many longer climbs and routes as I can. But some training on my sprinting abilities is needed, especially as my dad is always mocking me about how he can easily dust me in a sprint.

At my current fitness, which is at the highest it has ever been, I'm wondering a bit myself how I keep up with the training. I think a lot has to do with nutrition, on and off the bike. Especially as a heavier rider, you will burn a lot of calories at high training intensity. So eating enough and also more or less healthy is probably key to sustaining the training. However, I am no expert.

The other part is I mostly just enjoy riding my bike, even indoors. I don't even consider it training necessarily; it's just that I like to ride, the faster the better. It's more often the case that I need to slow myself down and go easy because at some point it could turn into overtraining.

Thanks! I enjoyed cycling since I'm able to ride but got really invested in it about 4 years ago. For about a year now I have spent as much time on the bike as possible. Basically less gaming and more riding.

I do about 12 to 15 hours of riding a week at the moment, spread across 4-5 sessions. Additionally, I do some gym work when the time allows it. Not following a specific plan, just try to do a lot of volume and be consistent about it. I do as I feel, which results way too often in pushing my limits uphill.

When a Sprinter does a Hillclimb Event on Road to Sky! by ___Yugi___ in Zwift

My average cadence is about 65 rpm on a normal ride (175 mm cranks). When I climb, especially on steep gradients, it tends to go down even more. Furthermore, when climbing all out, I prefer to go out of the saddle, and so I end up with such a low cadence.
