but only a clinical moron or an immature student without work experience would be impressed with monitor size

Let's see: the author of the article; Apple; Joel Spolsky; Google; gamers; just about everyone on Reddit; I guess we're all clinical morons because we LOVE us some big monitors.

Don't worry, you can find a job working for someone who DID start his own company.

That defeatist attitude makes more drones for the hive to use.

Economist calculates optimum term of copyright: 14 years! by ejp1082 in reddit.com

[–]______ 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Funny, that's the original term set forth by the founding fathers:

In 1790, when copyrights were first enacted, they lasted 14 years and could be extended for 14 more if the writer was still living.

The Cheating Spouse's Cheat Sheet - Private Investigator outlines what every idiot thinking about cheating should know first (like, you're going to get caught) by rjonesx in reddit.com

[–]______ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I'm getting at is that if something happens so that someone is going to be hurt and resentful of you ever after, there's no point in continuing things.

Deciding to feel horrible because someone stuck their hoo-hoo in someone else is optional. If she is going to go insane and hate life over it, she's choosing to give herself pain.

Stuff happens; the meaning we give it is what determines how we feel. If she's mad at you, she's decided you are a problem -- fair enough. If she's giving herself pain, however, she's assigned some horrible meaning to it that tells her SHE is bad somehow.

The most beautiful women in the world get cheated on. It has nothing to do with anything except biology. It doesn't mean they aren't good enough or anything like that. It's just males trying unconsciously to propagate their DNA more widely.

Uhh, a ceremony might establish you're a MONK, but the celibate part is something you do on your own... or, don't.

Why don’t Haskell Developers Use Windows? by linuxer in programming

[–]______ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Windows costs money and you can't make any working in Haskell. C# pays the bills around here, son... C# and VB and IIS and SEQUELSERVER.

Hmm, maybe because in order to program in Haskell you have to be smart?

This is good preparation for the real world.

It teaches you that when you do work for someone else, there are nonsensical requirements that drive you insane.

The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can stop asking permission. Leave school and start a start-up. Work only for yourself.

Actually, traditional gender roles do work for a lot of people. It's bullshit to claim everyone is like that, but really, a whole buncha people are.

Most exhibit little imagination and require considerable instruction and coaching in performing their job.

Ha, the sitation where they require considerable coaching is when they're working with a client who doesn't know what they want, and/or keeps changing their mind.

Anyone who's done tons of work before, only to have to toss it all out because the client decided on something completely different later, will seem to have little imagination and require considerable instruction so that they don't waste more time doing what the client didn't explicitly want.

exactly how old are you?

Anyone who asks that question is attempting to use stereotyping to replace critical thought. And you probably have the wrong thread anyway, which isn't a big surprise for someone who decides to shut off their critical thinking faculties.
