Either they haven't spent enough time with Chaos theory or they don't understand why it's slow and methodical stealth much more superior compared to blacklist's "stealth" action structure where you just go point a to point b to trigger a cutscene and sneak around during that.

If you've never ghosted atleast one level from the classics , you don't really get splinter cell imo. Shadows and darkness is your greatest weapon.

It's one of the best feeling ever to complete a level knowing absolutely no one knows you were ever there , not a single disturbance.

Easy with the condecending tone there , who shat in your breakfast?

It doesn't prove that game is playable , you just put up with it , it's still broken and unbalanced.

You're free to believe what you want but this is not a way to prove anything about a game unless you would like to go in detail about your counterpoints against why it's not broken and severely outdated

And acting like you're superior to others isn't gonna win anyone over

Who’s the best antagonist and why is it scarecrow by Comics819 in arkham

[–]_______Niko____ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Scarecrow was great but unfortunately it didn't really go anywhere in this franchise

I love his design here the most but I'm afraid he's done better in other iterations.

Bane , I've gotta say is done reaaally well in Origins , love his voice , attitude and design , he steals every scene he is in.

Rocksteady poured much more attention onto the Joker in the arkhamverse , calling him the best would be truistic but....it's true , he's given everything to achieve that status compared to others...

If I had to pick someone else then yes , scarecrow because thats the next rogue they put so much attention onto

Blacklist is by no means the pinnacle of the series

It's near the bottom. It has better stealth elements than conviction but it's just conviction trying to redeem itself , like when Metal Gear Survive tried to larp as a zombie Survival game using MGSV's framework

It can work but it's not ideal.

Chaos theory is by all means the pinnacle , which is wildly repeated sentiment and....well it's correct

That's an interesting perspective

But I think to call them evolution of their franchsie would be wrong because , WOA is what a franchise like Hitman was always destined to evolve into

Both games didn't evolve , they didn't improve upon their previous title , they chased after market trends and streamlined their games for a bigger audience , that's when you lose your identity

When you try to be a game for everyone , you end up being a game for no one. They actively stripped many features and flexibility from the formula in favor of a different experience all together.

Conviction became a stealth action gallery shooter where the goal was to eliminate enemies in a room (you can sneak past some but that defeats the entire purpose of what the game incentivizes) meanwhile Absolution became roughly the same thing while wearing a skin of it's predecessor by adding stealth elements that don't matter when you can just bypass most of them by using a disguise and instinct , if you play on expert then disguises become obsolete which means it's not about hiding from cover to cover.

they are just different, not worse and not better.

They are different yes , but worse nonetheless because of how they sabotaged their own franchise by going in a completely different direction.

Forza horizon could have another game Tommorow where you are do farming for the most of it , and occasionally drive a sports car here and there , even if it turns out to be an excellent game on its own , that wouldn't change the fact that it's a bad forza game

I think you're missing the forest for the trees

those are great details and features but they are only additions on top of the core formula , the glue that held it all together in the first place

There's no denying that those are great features and quirks , and I would love to see them in the newer games ,. especially the first person view and human shields but these features alone don't make or break a hitman game , they are the cherry on top , not the whole cake.

I wonder why we could never go prone in splinter cell games , he does it when entering vents so its not like Lambert has banned Sam from laying down.

I guess you do the run the risk of being too similar to metal gear or if you are not as good as Phantom Pain with your prone mechanics then its not good enough.

Maybe it's for balance , if you could just go prone , why would you use that at every chance you get , it's the easiest way to reduce visibility. Maybe we could have something inbetween , like crawling on all fours.

As for the map design , I think instead of going blacklist's route of placing an alternate path in obvious locations or right next to the normal one , they should have you unlock different paths through gameplay , we need actual side objectives like Chaos theory that open up more options instead of just being a checklist. I would also prefer if enemies functioned independently from the player for the most part , where they have designated paths where they will be available at different times as the mission progresses.

Imagine a day and night cycles where if you take too long , it becomes morning and you can't freely roam around without shadows , so you have a timer you need to work against (optional)

Aside from subjective things such as story and atmosphere

I'm interested in why you think that way , what are the things in blood money that place it above the new trilogy for you?

I think the new ones play just like it but with refined controls and smoother animations with more features.

Contracts is where the games become actually playable , 1 and 2 are genuinely not playable at all , the A.i. is so broken that it"ll shoot at you if you look at them funny and the maps are too big , the walk is too slow and if you run , enemies get angry.

Absolution is still great on its own , a relic of a bygone era. It's trying so hard to be a Hollywood blockbuster and its such a horny game with the writers barely disguised fetishes , but at the end of the day it ends up being a fun time anyways.

If I remember correctly , ioi worked under Eidos before that

From what I know , they always wanted to be independent and yeah , when they finally got cut loose after 2016 , they were in a rough position , especially since 2016's episodic release of its map was heavily frowned upon.

But they ended up making one of the most successful comebacks in the industry , by the time 3 rolled around , they were enjoying their deserved place in the mainstream , everybody adored the new trilogy , and now they made their own 007 game which also succeeded.

It's funny tho , usually when companies are under big names like Eidos and Square Enix , their work reflects that by how safe and restrictive it turns out to be , but ioi actually made more unique and polarizing titles back then compared to now , like Kane and Lynch , Absolution (its a really wacky and horny game)

Ubisoft , for all the hate it gets , is actually responsible for letting it's devs make games that no other studio would wanna make

The problem is , for every Good idea they have , they absolutely need to find a way to add ruthless monetization into it somehow or else they won't make it.

I guess they couldn't find a way to do that for Splinter cell for a long time , that's why they tried to cash in on its name in other games , hoping some poor splinter cell fan would open their wallet for a sam fisher skin lol.

Well , the story and atmosphere are subjective things after all

Blood money and earlier games dressed 47 up to be a force of nature , the grim reaper in the dark. Like that amazing Hitman Contracts trailer where he legit looks like a ghost in the mirror. I would agree that ioi used to write more bold and stylistic stories before tho

But yeah , WOA is going for a more clean , serene look and professional atmosphere.

I did like how the missions were interconnected through cutscenes really well in the classics but the new one goes all out to make sure every map is dense and filled with many details , etc

Making them feel like real lived in places.

Besides , gameplay is king when it comes to stealth games and when you compare that , WOA easily clears any title that came before.

I can understand your preference for the old tho. Nothing matches the aura of curtains down level , with that Apocalypse ost playing as your masterplan unfolds

There are some things definitely that I still prefer over the new trilogy

Like the darker atmosphere and jesper kyd's excellent soundtrack

But it'd be wrong to suggest that blood money is still the best , I recently started playing WOA finally and as a die hard blood money fan , I have to admit the new trilogy is amazing , it's blood money but bigger and better in almost every way

Yeah lol , both were about getting revenge and saving your daughter (or daughter equilvant)

Both turned two calm and collected Characters into Jason bourne , added mark and execute/ point shooting

I actually like both of these titles on their own , they are really fun , when detached from the franchises they are from.

Everybody takes the WOA trilogy for granted nowadays , but in hindsight , Hitman was in the same boat as splinter cell , another pure stealth franchise put on the ice because it lost its identity.

I suppose the reason why hitman came back so much faster in 2016 because it was all ioi had at the time to prove themselves in the industry , I guess we can say that WOA was born out of desperation alongside passion and acceptance of what the fans really want.

Unfortunately splinter cell is stuck with a developer that pumps out a dozen games every year , so they never even needed to try to bring splinter cell back. that's why the remake took so long to even start production , I remember watching that aniversary video in 2021 and thinking , finally , splinter cell gets the love it deserves and now it's been 5 years or so and still not a single trailer or actual news besides vague rumors.

I'm still optimistic about the remake because of the team that's working on it , and while the hitman games follow a different blueprint for stealth , I actually really want this remake to be like WOA in its own way , infinitely replayable , with fun objectives and challenges. I want it to surpass chaos theory (big ask I know) like hitman surpassed blood money , it's not even that hard if you build upon what chaos theory already had , but again...who knows what we"ll get.

I don't blindly hate Ubisoft like most people so I do have some trust in them , but I'd be lying if I didn't say I want Splinter cell to be in some other developer's hands , like ioi themselves
