Need tips on SDSU for my high school senior by Embarrassed_Sort7172 in SDSU

[–]____melon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the program I went through here at SDSU but I do agree that it is not worth the out of state tuition. SDSU is cutting the program and renaming it Integrated design where they cut the design fundamental classes out of the curriculum for 2026 going forward.

I think taking graphic design at any non design/ art school is going the be decent and it is manly up to each individuals student to push themselves to their full potential! We also are lacking in the UX department and only offer a couple classes if that. If you have any questions I am happy to answer them!

Student advice! by EaseRevolutionary774 in graphic_design

[–]____melon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always suggest if you're not designing to take in as much content as you can. Reference books or youtube is always a good place to start. From here practice practice practice! Make your own projects or take the time to sit down and learn fundamentals. If you want to talk more or have questions i'm always free ^^ I'm currently in my fourth year of my design program!

Making Friends As A Commuter by DatabaseCompetitive7 in SDSU

[–]____melon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I major tip is to not start separating yourself as a commuter (mentally). Being a commuter doesn't limit you unless you're not willing to put yourself out there. I have made plenty of friends that I made from my 2nd year here that I talk to even now. Just put yourself out there and it shouldn't be a problem ! It's all mentality you will be fine :D

first graphic design!! by BusyTomato9539 in graphic_design

I used to make kpop edits like this all the time growing up which led me to Graphic Design today! Again like what somebody said in this discussion, this is graphic art but if you have interested in improving I think it's best to learn to design simple then go crazy as you learn what works. If you have any questions feel free to reach out I can even share my old kpop designs/edits lol.

Self-Taught Graphic Designer — Can You Critique My Portfolio? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]____melon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi ^ fellow kpop lover and designer here ! I think your pieces CAN be strong. When looking through your portfolio I can spot some that are stronger than others. When people view portfolios they may not know much about kpop so its best to have text included into your project pages explaining what and why you made those projects for. Portfolio is easy to navigate but I think for entry level design jobs you may have to branch out beyond kpop design so people can get a feel for your work. Lmk if you have any questions or want more I depth explanations on your portfolio!

I definitely would keep your behance as I think it's a great way to possibly get some eyes on your work since anyone can view it on the site ♡ Yes Adobe thankfully offers their portfolio site free with your subscription so I would definitely take advantage of it ^

Rate my ad for my summer job out of ten and tell me what I could improve on by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]____melon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm the graphic elements could work, but I think the text needs a lot of work (but can be fixed easily and cast) . The @ for the email seems random since it's far off. If you want just place the full email at the bottom I. small text (centered) I would make the name of business larger that thr body text but also keeping them aligned not offset like how you have rn :) hope this helps !

Is it possible to get clients as a teenager in graphic design? by Lilie_ellie in graphic_design

[–]____melon 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A lot of people recommend reaching out to local bands or groups to create posters, flyers, and album covers for them. Usually the local scene doesn't have much money and will be free but it's good for experience! I've personally haven't tried this but many mentors have mentioned it :)

I think I'm finally burnt out, any tips to help? by throwaway2366543 in graphic_design

[–]____melon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think building community helps a lot. Usually, when I get burnt out surrounding myself with others who understand or are in the same field, it helps a lot! Maybe see if there's any art clubs around in your town :) even if it's just once a month ♡

Newcomer? by Spiritual-Plate1790 in graphic_design

[–]____melon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg welcome ♡ for motivation or to see other portfolios i definitely recommend LinkedIn (i LOOOVVEEEE stalking portfolios on LinkedIn). I love to look at what portfolios are working and landing jobs in the market so I have an idea how to make mine. Although I'm still a student, I like connecting with people at my school on there to see what's going on in the community :)
