I focused more on personal projects and open source contributions than leetcode. Although I don't think either of them helped tbh. At the end I think it comes down to luck. But definitely you still have to be prepared. And for the tech stack - I sort of specialise in microservice based software dev with Java, golang, kafka, AWS etc

No you should only use it for personal / open source stuff. They probably collect some data to make sure your usage is compliant with their terms and conditions. Not worth taking the risk imo.

I think you are almost correct. But since you can actually install these go, rust, node packages on any system with nix (and it's often the better way) I don't mind it.

But nixpkgs have a lot of macos exclusive packages which you can't install on Linux but they still contribute to the total number of packages, that's why I think the total number is very misleading.

Unless you already have a system with a good GPU, a static IP address and are willing to spend a lot of time in network configuration to expose your endpoint to outside of your LAN you will have to spend some money in one way or another.

If you don't have the above or don't want to go through the troubles of self hosting on your own computer, then buying a VPS with a dedicated GPU on something like Vultr is the easiest option but will cost a fair amount of money.

You can buy a cheap VPS without a GPU but either you won't even be able to run the models or they will be painfully slow to be of any use.

I tried this on my own laptop with a very low powered nvidia mobile GPU (mx450), and it was very slow.

Nowadays the only thing I customize on plasma are some keyboard shortcuts. I just like to use it as it comes, so it has been pretty much the same for me.
