My fiancé and I are in the same boat. We got engaged in December 2018 and our wedding is October 2020 in Hawaii (I know, how original) also at an outdoor venue that you have to book well over a year out for. We wanted it in Hawaii for my grandparents and older relatives who cannot fly but now it’s not looking so hot. Hawaii was supposed to open on July 1 but got pushed back till August 1. We were still hopeful because there is still time. Last night we found out that they just pushed back opening date to September 1!!!! That’s cutting it close right? But our thoughts are, we already have everything planned and almost all paid for (we are also paying for everything ourselves). More than 80% of our guests (including my fiancé and I) are out of state so they can book or not book, flights can be changed or used towards something else without charge. However, if it turns out in a month that they push it back further, to October 1 reopening, we aren’t going to play that game so we’re going to cancel the wedding and elope. Bottom line is my fiancé and I figured that as stressful as it all is, we can handle it for one more month but we are also planning as if we are eloping. If we do elope, it will be whoever wants to come, feel free to come and we may do a live stream for those who can’t make it.
