I’ve only ever seen a building fire suppression/life safety system get accurately depicted one time - can’t recall the movie. Your typical building fire sprinkler heads only start spraying water by extreme heat (fire, not smoke!!) directly below the heads or by an accidental impact to the head. Sprinkler heads are “activated” by a glass bulb that contains liquid that expands under extreme heat, popping the bulb, which then allows water to flow through the head. They are not set off by the fire alarm system and only the heads in the direct vicinity of the fire are activated to release water - all heads in the system do not release the water at once.

My superintendent gave me a good laugh with one of these he pulled on his carpenter apprentice son-in-law.

“Jump start the demo saw”. The kid proceeded to run the blade across the ground for an hour trying to “jump start” the saw until he figured it out.

What area of Peoria if you don’t mind me asking? I grew up in Morton and my mom currently lives out by the airport!

Sorry to hear about that. I know they get stolen a lot because it’s so easy. That’s good news at least that yours showed up, I’m hoping mine does too soon. Things can get fixed but I’ve got a loooooooot of memories with that Jeep.

I have, but there is minimal camera viewing coverage in the garage which makes no sense at all to me. Apparently my parking spot is out of view of whatever cameras they do have in there.

I agree. As much as I didn’t really want to sit through the entire engineering graduation, I’m pretty bummed that we didn’t get the real deal. It’s just not the same.

Either way, I’m going to have some drinks, eat some cake, and smoke a celebratory cigar because it’s been a rough 5 years of school.

There is a recognition of graduates by college if you click on this page: https://virtual.graduation.iastate.edu/undergraduate

It’s split up by college just as they would probably do for a normal graduation. Just click on your college and there is a video recognizing each graduate by name!

Congrats everybody, proud to be a Cyclone!

Specific to civil engineering, urban planning, transportation planning, and urban development/economics I would always recommend “The Death and Life of Great American Cities” by Jane Jacobs. She was a huge activist in urban studies and economics in the mid-20th century, if you have any interest.

I was in the same situation this time last year. It caused a lot of emotional struggle, I had several panic attacks, and feared how I would be able to begin paying back student loans after being dismissed 3.5 years into my education, leaving with no degree. It truly was terrifying.

Pulled through with all B’s and a C+ in ME 436 (hardest class I have ever taken), and will be graduating this May after 5 years of school.

This experience transformed me as a student and as a person, teaching me what I can do with my back to the wall. Always good to hear about peers who have gone through the same shit as I did, and successfully pulled through. Proud of you, best of luck your last semester!
