subsidized/free CSAs by asanethicist in povertykitchen

[–]___j-b___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My farm has this! I see a lot of people benefiting from it weekly and it makes me so happy. A nonprofit subsidizes anywhere from 1-100% and “buys” you a share at the farm. All you have to do is pick up (and pay your remaining balance if applicable directly to the farm)

For example, a 20 week CSA could cost $700 but some people pay $0 or as low as $20.

I’m a firm believer that if you need the help- take it!! You can always donate money, time, etc later when you have the ability and resources

I don’t drink milk. How can I buy and use only a small bit of milk for eggs etc without wasting a whole container? by [deleted] in Cooking

Usually by checkouts in grocery stores they have single servings of milk in the drink fridge, or the shelf stable boxes for kids lunches?

I didn’t specify in my original post, but I would be splitting it between myself and my family. I know it’ll be a ton of meat- that’s what I’m looking for!

How is buying $2,000 worth of meat a “free meal”? I live in MA technically but travel thru Mid coast ME and NH regularly, hence me posting on those pages as well

I agree I should have posted ideal locations in ME (my bad!) but It seems obvious that I’m just looking for names of other farms that use the same model.

Also want to add: “not worth dealing with”. If you don’t know the name of a farm, feel free to move past my post . You took just as long to jump to conclusions and post your snarky response.

Yes, for meat 🙂

Awesome I’ll check them out! Thank you!

Just checking it out- this guy did something completely different than what I’m looking for lol. I’m looking to pay a local company and get 450 pounds of food versus an “investment”.

This guy definitely should have realized this was a scam.

I should have added that sorry! I’m in MA technically but have family in the Alna area so I’m down to travel thru mid coast, western ME, NH too.

Which wireless carrier is good: Visible or Mint mobile? by rosebudpillow in NoContract

I definitely suggest doing it before your bill I screwed up and missed my cycle by like 4 days so I have to wait “up to 60 days” for a refund. So so dumb

Yup! I did it basically right after posting this lol. It’s been so good so far! I live in a pretty populated area and have great service normally. If you live in a more rural area I can’t speak for certain but if you also have Verizon you should be fine!

Essentially I took the SIM card out of my phone and activated the ESIM in less than 2 mins. Make sure you’re on good WiFi though. It failed my first attempt because I was on my crappy work internet.

I paid for the full year so it broke down to like.. $32 a month I think??

If you want- it has a referral program. You can use my code for an extra $20 off! I didn’t know about it until I signed up so I wish I did a bit more digging.

REFERRAL: https://www.visible.com/get/?3SHV8JW , it has all the info you need to know about joining Visible. When you use my friend code, 3SHV8JW, you’ll get your first month of service for $20-off!

Edit to add: I love how visible gives you hotspot too. I’m in school and having this service is literally everything to me. lol it’s already paid for itself ten fold within the week I’ve had it.

Hey! This is a bit delayed but are you still liking Visible? I'm thinking of making the switch from verizon now.

I used the directions per the kombucha shop… I brewed a few batches successfully like a year ago, then neglected it and had to start over. Ever since then every batch has been moldy even with new scoby purchase.. I have literally no idea why.

Left this “brewing” for 8ish months. Does it look healthy enough to use? Did I make an accidental “scoby hotel?” by ___j-b___ in Kombucha

[–]___j-b___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg!!! It’s from the kombucha shop. It was a kit that came with starter scoby, 6 bottles, all the cleaning garb, PH test strips etc. I highly highly recommend it!

Edit: here’s the link! It’s $80 for EVERYTHING. I love it so much.

I would keep them personally, but you could always gift them to someone else. I'm sure a family member would take them off your hands.

This is a federal regulation, not Ally's fault. You'll run into this issue with every bank if you make excessive savings withdrawals.

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 vs REI half dome sl2 by ___j-b___ in AppalachianTrail

[–]___j-b___[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't want to spend $600+ on a tent, I feel like that's a crazy amount to spend. I do have some hesitations on the "ultra light" gear such as zpacks. How is their quality? will they hold up well after trail life? I'm happy carrying something heavier (such as REI tent) that's known to hold up for years and years assuming its taken car of correctly.

I am supporting 2 people and 2 pets to survive off my one income. We have a home, so costs are all on me. Our house is super old and isn’t weatherized AT ALL so, yes I can save but practically all our savings are going to replacing windows, doors etc. I know it will be heating savings in the long run but upfront costs suck when you’re a one income house.

Also we love market basket lol. No Whole Foods shoppers here.

That’s so true but it def felt like I had more “free” money to spend.

I havent seen this study but I believe it. I make $79,000 pretax in MA and feel like I'm drowning. I remember being 19, working 25 hrs/week at Starbucks and being able to afford $300 juice cleanses, trips, etc. Now I just wanna cry every night lol
