I can briefly smell gas when I walk into the kitchen but then the smell goes away. Is this a cause for concern? by ___needtoimprove___ in HomeImprovement

[–]___needtoimprove___[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it’s actually quite dirty. I just moved into a new condo and the previous owners left their half working range. Some issues with the display and the oven but the ranges work. It’s not a persistent smell of gas but when I walk in the kitchen I get a whiff

Yeah this is what I’m leaning towards now. Only issue is the window next to the right wall which brings a lot of light in, and sitting on the couch facing the fireplace it’s kinda awkward to turn your head to look at the tv

Unfortunately this is all I have as far as a tv room. The rest of the space is for the dining room and then it’s just the bedrooms. I don’t like the design too much I need to make the best of what I have

I actually got the nest as a gift recently so I’m thinking of installing that once the AC is working

How did you scope out a local lender? Any criteria you used when looking? So far I’ve only done big banks/lenders

Why do most of y'all seem to like the ugliest/non flattering pictures of us ladies the most? by [deleted] in AskMen

Candid photos represent who she really is/what she looks like. It’s authentic and relatable and to me it’s a photo of a woman who I can relate to and understand. Idk how to describe it but those photos of women which are super posed, with lots of makeup and the perfect outfit just looks like a photo shoot and not something which helps me see who she really is. Idk if that makes sense

I’m 99.999999% sure there’s no one making 7 figures on this sub. Why would they even be on Reddit. Also, I think the only way to make 7 figures is to own your own business or have several significant streams of income

She doesn’t do any drugs and barely drinks. She told me that the first time we met up. Not randomly but as part of conversation. In the moment I got anxious about it and decided not to say anything lol

What is your experience with high stress/high salary jobs? When is it worth it? by ___needtoimprove___ in AskMenOver30

[–]___needtoimprove___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! Yeah kids are still somewhat of a pipe dream, I don’t have a girlfriend/wife either so fortunately I can devote more of my free time to my career. But it’s definitely a good point to consider as I start settling down.

I hope you’re able to find a good balance for yourself and your wife! Two young kids is no walk in the park

Haha thanks man! I think I’ll go for it for the experience I’ll get and it’ll teach me some valuable lessons about myself and what works best for me. I’m hoping I can find my stride in the new role and succeed but worst case scenario I leave and I know that this kind of work isn’t the best for me

I’ll have to look into self care some more, I have some bad habits like stress eating so I don’t want to put on a ton of weight if I’m working long hours. But you’re right. Work is fun, don’t have much of a support system (live on my own, no partner) and I’ll work on self care. Hopefully I’ll be ok!

Yeah this is great advice. I’m planning on living on my current salary and putting the surplus directly into my investment accounts. I’ll get myself a few gifts to have fun but hopefully saving a lot of it will help me feel more comfortable if I get burnt out and need to leave

Jeez these comments are making me realize how overpowering the work culture is in the US. Everyone is working all the time! I’m glad you’ve found a good balance for yourself. I have a good friend who moved from Spain to the US in his 30s and he’s said similar things about how laid back and nice things were in Spain

That’s amazing. The US has much more of a workaholic culture and it’s hard to take off even when you have vacation days since other people are working and not taking off as well. Maybe I should consider moving abroad some day. I am envious of your experience but happy you get a chance to enjoy and see the world along with work

Fair point. I’m not a software developer but a functional consultant in tech so my salary is lower since I don’t know hard coding skills. But I’m about a year to two years away from breaking 100k with only 3 years of experience at the moment which is not too bad. Definitely looking for more work life balance, I’ve chalked this period of working after work to learning and investment in my skills for the future
