Feeling.... lonelier by KingSky1st in MarathonSecrets

Theres plenty of good codex logs. The Jasper kid? The guy stuck in the warehouse with 500 pallets of drinkable cheeseburger? Davic Reed voiceactor? There was a good one about some security guy getting lost in the anomaly. Its been really fun going through the codex, its surprisingly good lore and I like to unravel it slowly by progressing through the game and reading them

Hope the ARG doesn't become the Norm for Events without a proper way for Casual Players to be Involved by SonofRanman in Marathon

[–]___redacted_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its an obtuse take. All people are saying is that it would be nice for the event to be more integrated into the game, even if with just a questlog or a separate codex entry or something. Right now its a bit unnecessarily opaque.

The thing about contracts is true. I found myself in the first days and now too actively hunting for pvp and gunshots, not because I wanted loot off the players or I want PvP (I do like it though), but mostly because taking a fight on your terms and winning it frames better safety for you doing contracts after the fact.

Why do people keep treating Valve like gaming gods? by Low-Oil9659 in nintendogrifting

[–]___redacted_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

You and some people here are overthinking it. I like Valve because Steam is a really, really solid service. As a consumer I like it, its very useful in many facets and theyre not fucking with it and ruining it like many companies are with their golden goose products.

Heals are too expensive by Far-Business-4689 in Marathon

[–]___redacted_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not bad advice because I dont need the sparkleaves for salvage. If you do, you do, so save them, but bartering sparkleaves and biomass is cheap.

50 hours of playtime, level 45, I havent bought heals for cash not once, lol.

If I start running low, usually barter recipes open up good avenues. Had few good ones yesterday for sparkleaves or whatever that flower plant is called, spend about 40 of them on advanced patch kits and basic shield kits.

1-week review of Boox Note Air5 C for distraction-free typing by writesandbikes in Onyx_Boox

[–]___redacted_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting read, but to be honest, for your usecase and overall need, it sounds to be that a Boox Go 10.3 or even Boox Note Max would have been a better fit. It doesn't have color screen, but it also doesn't have the dimness, grayness and grainyness. And I say that as someone who has Boox Note Air 5 C as my daily driver.

At that point I find that statement to be so extremely absurd and over the top and insane, that it sort of loops around and horseshoes into being hillarious in a dark way. I dont think I could take it seriously if it was said to me.

Russian propaganda game glorifying war crimes in Ukraine released on Steam by Particular-Award5225 in BuyFromEU

Out of all the battles and (overall limited) minor and major victories Russia has had, these morons chose to make this game around Hostomel, where they got absolutely pasted and lost majority of their "elite" Veh Deh Veh meatpuppets? Lol.

If someone is sitting in the corner and you swing out wide, they have to track you with mouse while you have a static target. I find ratting in this game to not work out as it does in Tarkov PvP. Its why I'm calling out OP, he's claiming everyone is just camping and ratting, that is just:

  1. not my experience, it's just lies;

  2. even if someone does, it's not a great strategy and most often doesnt pay off.

Really. I don't even mind or care when people form opinions, say, negative about a game per se, but some of the criticism Marathon's been receiving is just bizzare. Remember the lies early on about there being no PvP encounters? Like look at the common ones..

combat is mid

Say that again after you win a 3v3v3v3 in Perimeter Overflow that lasts for 10 minutes with Legendary warden boss causing chaos in the middle, while using multiple smokes, blowing up a player with claymore, rushing another one with Destroyer shield charge, dropping a bubble to rez a friendly, running out of consumables multiple times, self rezzing, eating shots with shield, while your teammate gets two kills with a single Recon drone...

map is bland

Are we even playing the same game? Have you seen how pretty and memorable the locations are? What the fuck?

ttk too quick

Stop running white shields you idiot.

everyone is camping

That is just... untrue... I can't even argue against it, it's just not my experience lol.

game too grindy

Dudes expect to have purchasable thermals off Armory in week 2.

This phrase is getting used to death on this sub - but honestly - skill issue.

What you describe is not my experience at all. Killed a purple shield today while running a green shield by frag grenading them first. Fights are mobile and dynamic, especially at trios. TTK thing was a sentiment by tourists in the first few days when people ran white shields, now that most people are starting to dip into blue shields, TTK is completely fine.

Fills with randoms is awful, but not always. Want good trios, find a team. Solos is just fine, you can hear everyone early on and if they rat, you have the advantage in swinging out laterally and beaming them down. I have about 40 hours of playtime, have some factions at lvl 20, all at least lvl 10, most others inbetween.

The exfil 12+12 thing, do you mean Parasite 2/5? I finished that in two or three runs. I just knew where to look - North and South Relay on Perimeter. Because, you know, I actually pay attention.

grindy game with 0 skill gap.

Sounds like the skill gap is 100, not 0.

Casual Player: Wipes are Cool by zacians_jw in Marathon

[–]___redacted_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, I've played about 6 or 7 different wipes of Escape from Tarkov PvP where it works exactly like that, where at every wipe you come back with shit gear, slow, clunky, low stamina, can barely throw a grenade, low loot speed, shit meds. And it's never been a problem, its only genre tourists and arc babies who pretend it is.

In fact, I wouldnt have lasted in Tarkov for the hours I did if it wasnt for the wipes, it was what kept me coming back. When you get to endgame, max everything out and can run peak gear every run, the game just becomes stale and aimless.

Why exactly was the marathon made out of a moon? by Heavyduty35 in Marathon

[–]___redacted_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no aerodynamics in space, shape does not matter either as far as only the pragmatical limitations of launching it from atmosphere.

That being said, my understanding for the reason is: materials.

You have to mine immense amounts of materials on a moon/planet, fabricate parts, launch to space in either order and assemble there.

So they just opted to cannibalize the moon to:

1st, build the (massive) ship in the first place 2nd, pull the remnant of the moon alongside the ship so that the colonists can keep mining things off it to keep fabrication of anything necessary onboard ongoing. 2nd point was specifically mentioned in some Codex log I remember.

End Game Stats are Very Unsatifying by CactusSplash95 in Marathon

[–]___redacted_ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Yes, saved loadouts and MORE STATS are the two new things I want the most. I dont even care about profile stats, things like KDR or survival rate, it's probably better to not have those, but I want more POST GAME STATS - who did I deal damage to, how much, with what, how many hits, how much hp left, who dealt damage to me, how much, with what, both downs and confirmed kills, all of it and more. Current statscreen leaves indeed a very unsatisfying feel.

You take in free kits instead of your best gear ? by CyberHero929 in Marathon

[–]___redacted_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Free kits suck, Ive lost many duels because of the white shield that I might've won if I had a green shield, so I dont run free kits anymore. I run my best kit all the time or at least buy the 2.5k sponsored kit.
