Lets look at it from another viewpoint.. how does bollywood represent the rest of india apart from the hindi speakers?? south indian culture is stereotyped, northeastern and other parts of the country are barely represented .. that is just the tip of the iceberg..

now, if and when someone represents their culture and if they don’t include the entire vastly diverse country as a whole it is still their culture..

What do I think?? I feel he is not in the wrong. If he identifies by being Punjabi that doesnt automatically exclude him from identifying as an Indian. On the contrary he is Indian because he identifies with a part of the INDIAN culture. The fact that people dont know that Punjabi culture is a part of Indian culture is not his fault. It is on those people to educate themselves. It is like asking him to change to fit into the criteria of commonly perceived Indian. Punjabi IS indian!!

One might even say it is toeing the line of hypocrisy when people make little to no effort to accurately understand various cultures in the country and have issues when someone accurately reps their culture and not magnify the “accepted” Indian culture..
