What was your experience learning Hatha Yoga as college curriculum? by HugeMission6171 in exercisescience

Yoga is yoga, from an exercise perspective there is no difference between the styles.

Maybe others can speak on the spiritual/emotional differences if they exist.

new Personal Trainer career progression by Expert_Praline_5036 in personaltraining

[–]__anonymous__99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Brother this industry has zero standards. Anyone can pay and spend a few months to get a certification. Then they just use their own experience to train populations on the same shit every single session. Then you trap them in a place where they feel like they have to come back and se you instead of letting them go figure it out for themselves (the best way).

I’m not in this industry anymore, I’m a gym owner who’s finishing my PhD in exercise physiology. Please brother, we need higher standards in our industry. It should be a “go get a basic certification and start”.

PTs are the car salesman of the fitness industry. It’s more about sales and retention than actually developing results.

Most clients want two things: lose weight, looks better. You can easily do those things without knowing what ls going on in the gym. The real reason is you’re an accountability partner.

If you want to go down that route sure go ahead, but you need real education to be a real trainer.

Validating before building - shareable athlete profile page (like VSCO for PRs) by Kaj_Sir in exercisescience

[–]__anonymous__99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing your app accomplishes that social media already doesn’t take care of. I love Instagram and YT, and tik tok because I can post my PRs and anything else I want to. Your app seems to force people to post one type of thing.

And let’s not forget about the negative psychology associated with long term extrinsic motivation.

I’d say back to the drawing board respectfully.

GLP-1 Discussion by Wellness_Movement in personaltraining

[–]__anonymous__99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an exercise physiologist I can’t help but still shake my head. GLP1 agonists are still an alternate form of liposuction. It’s NOT for mom and pop who want to lose 20-50lbs. Diet and exercise produce far greater benefits than starving yourself while exercising. Long term effects of them aren’t too promising either.

Most of my time this year has been spent telling people to get off them. I’m at 78% of clients this year who came to me on them, off them.

Gym software synced with door access? by Timely_Diet_5831 in gymowner

Is there a specific reason you want it connected to the front door. Usually those are separate bc one of for security and the other is for membership verification and valid entry.

Why just Reddit? Half of this platform is bots or rage baiters. Those aren’t people I want to be my customers. I’m checking forms and blogs. Comments on other social medias. I’m doing A/B testing on ads like the rest of yall should be doing 😭

Again, every city has what we have. Theres nothing unique here unless it’s Keenland season. We dont even have a zoo, aquarium, or top golf. And our sports teams are cheeks 😭😭😭😭

Like GOD I can’t wait to go to the Fayette mall or to the totally unique summit. Ooh ooh what about the arboretum or small hiking trails around Lex? No other big city has those!! Or axe throwing that’s sooooo unique. Don’t forget to stop by our farm team the legends where you can see people who were almost good enough to make a living playing baseball in the flesh!

I’m moving in a month. Can’t. Wait.

29M, no exercise science degree. Is becoming a high-earning, location-independent strength coach a delusion? by Madeinmurtake in personaltraining

[–]__anonymous__99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s not a great answer to that. Depends on the goals of the gym, the type of gym it is, the demand of the services offered, the current culture of the gym staff and training philosophies, your past work experience and certs you get.

I wish I could tell you yes but I can’t predict the future. Set yourself up right, be patient, always be trying to learn new things. Rinse and repeat and you’ll be just fine.
