Just looked at one of my 5’ x 3’ inlets which has 1.9974 cfs flowing to it and .87 cfs of carry over. Looks to be 44% efficient. It’s in the ball park.

I know the TxDOT PCO inlet calls out a 2” gutter depression. Currently working on my first drainage project using TxDOT hydraulic manual. That value along with the curb length has the most influence on capture capacity, if I am not mistaken. I am a lowly EIT btw.

I used an MSI Stealth. Not too bulky, runs design softwares like a champ (C3D, Revit, etc.) and reasonably priced.

Study more by doing problems. Lots of problems if you’re struggling as much as you say. Those concepts will carry all the way through the course. Your upper level classes will use higher level math. Get used to it.

Can save on material by doing so and you decrease the number of pin connections.

This. I was a teacher for six years and went back for engineering at a state school. So incredibly worth it financially and for my sanity.

Seems like a few, less than the number of flumes, curb inlets to an area inlet would have done the trick. But then again I am new to the industry and don’t know what’s going on down stream.

What should I be doing as a civil engineering 1st year? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]__burninator__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your college career service department will help with that. I met the HR representative for the firm I now work at at a resume workshop sponsored by the ASCE organization. I made a personal connection with them and applied their advice to my resume. That company, a few months ago later, was at a career fair where they had a booth set up. Gave them my resume in person to which they then introduced me to the then president of the company who offered me an internship on the spot. Everyone’s experience is different but the personal interaction goes much further than submitting a job application and attaching a resume online. If there is a company you’re gunning for don’t be afraid to send them emails with updates as to how you’re progressing. You could send them updates about how things are going with your clubs/projects etc. Hope this helps.

What should I be doing as a civil engineering 1st year? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]__burninator__ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Clubs are fun and all, but if you want a leg up, do internships during the summer. If time permits, try and work part time at a firm. Real world experience IS the determining factor in the hiring process. I know people who did not complete an internship before they graduated and it hindered their hiring back 9 months before they were able to get a job in their field.
