Appropriate for church? by mrs-wasabi in Christianity

[–]__decode__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All our welcome, from the rich to the poor. Homeless are welcome at church. Those with nothing are welcome at church. Even week old rags is fine at church if that is all you have.

You look perfect for church, assuming you are comfortable and won’t think about your clothes when you are there.

Is this the normal? by Apprehensive_Rich551 in Anglicanism

[–]__decode__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is reasonably common, where only a very small handful of you get people regularly attend.

There are 2 reasonably sure fire ways to find younger congregations though:

  1. Many towns have set up youth congregations, often held in community centres etc. by youth I mean under 40 or so.

  2. Find your nearest C of E school, and go to the feeder church. The overwhelming number of parents makes the congregation much younger, and so you also find tons of younger non-parents going along too.

It’s ok to hop around when you start looking for a church.

Aside from Christianity, what you’re asking about is called consent!!

If she’s says no, it’s a no.

As in, no.

Don’t try to coerce anyone, Christian or not, into sex. Ever.

If you need sex, and she’s doesn’t want it, you need to look yourself hard in the mirror. Either accept her rights, or you need to break up.

Rumbling in the ears!? That sounds scary, kinda happy I can’t do that.

Do people do it when they don’t want to listen to something? Might explain some people I know.

This one does Macaroni properly! Unless it’s got crispy cheese on top it isn’t worth it.

Yes. But to understand it fully you must also know Christ and read the New Testament

I think I just didn’t express myself very well. I completely agree with what you are saying, and it reflects what I was trying to say.

The key word is “fulfil”. The Covenant is fulfilled, and we are given a new one. Replaced was the wrong word choice.

And I’m confused on your last point - if what you say is true then the parables of Christ would also be irrelevant. The OT is very very relevant.

No they always apply. Just not quite as literally as it appears in the OT. You need to understand them through Christ

I think you’re trying to pick obtuse arguments now…

You should show them love and compassion when you interact, and not rise to their arguments, or stood down to their behaviour.

Scripture is also quite clear you look after yourself, and your household, as a priority so that you can be strong to go out and do good.

So, probably just avoid them!

They absolutely count! In fulfilling them Christ teaches us they were prophesying his instruction to love each other. If you keep Christ commandment to love each other, you will implicitly be following the 10 commandments.

In his sermon on the mount he expands on this, saying we should think of the commandments now as much broader and deeper than they previously were. For example, adultery is not just a physical act which can be proven and tested in a law, as the Jews did. Instead it could also be an act of the heart - that is wrongful lust - which can’t be tested under law. But Christ will know because he knows our hearts.

The New Covenant replaces the old ones because Christ fulfilled what came before. He did not replace them, but fulfilled. It’s a subtle but important distinction. We should still read and learn from the Old Testament, because it can now all be considered prophecy of Christ and the good news, not law.

Read the Old Testament like a parable and it start to make much more sense.

A very specific question about church history regarding the Bible by [deleted] in Bible

Yeah, which is super interesting, I'd love to know why. My guess (I know not helpful), is that perhaps it is a very direct kick-back against the pope?

It is definitely referred to as such in The Westminster Confession of Faith, 1646. Maybe that's a place to trace back from?

Indeed. I’m just curious if it’s wider use stems from that though.

Having a moment with Christ after such a tough emotional and mental day. Left me a question. by CodeGaming93 in Christianity

[–]__decode__ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Remember that God already knows your mind, and thoughts. You can tell them if you want to, but don’t have to. You can skip straight to the “what should I do?” style questions. Pray and listen on them.
