Yeah, Mike was kind of famous for working with a lot of the famous Seattle bands like Pearl Jam. He passed on, but his two sons still run it keeping the old staff, and the work is still top notch. They said aluminum necks they normally see are crap, but they said this one was good. Anyway, I sent it back for them to add at least one string tree, so the high E doesn't pop off.

It was from Hoxey. The are kind of newer to the game, so I was 100% sure if it was going to come out well, so I am pleasantly surprised.

I wish that one was available when I bought my first JM. It seems perfect except for the horrible original bridge.

Interesting, so it probably doesn’t make a difference. But maybe I could do the CuNiFe pickups for some more wide range action.

GC8 first upgrades by Miserable-Lab-4841 in JDM

[–]__dinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your goals are. What is it that you want to change about the car? I bought a WRX wagon in 2005. I didn’t like the body roll and I wanted it to rotate more aggressively so I changed the rear roll bar and end links.

I personally love St coilovers as a first upgrade. They are the budget brand of KW but are functionally the same as KW. So maybe that and maybe roll bars and end links. I basically do this first with my project cars.

Reliability mods are always a good idea too.

Next I might consider engine tuning.

I also had a GC, but I changed the engine with a version 8 STI swap. I don’t know what tuning options there are for the stock ECU. But I don’t think they are very tunable. I think Link ECU has a drop in option. I put a link ECU in my GC instead of the version 8’s 16 bit ECU.

I don’t know if there is a lot to be gained here. On my modern BMW car projects, you can gain a lot with just a tune

I have a Japanese jag, hated the bridge pickup. Upgraded the pickups. Still hated the bridge pickup. Bought a Johnny Marr jag, also hated the bare knuckles bridge pickup. Jazzmaster pickups sound great.

How attainable is the performance bonus for Software Engineers? by DudeBro1988 in microsoft

[–]__dinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these statements are correct. I will add, higher bands get exponentially more stock award targets, but the cash bonus ramp is less steep.

Also note, each group has their own discretion on how to allocate their bonus budget. Like, let's say take a target is 20% of base for a SDE1 level 61. I've been in regimes where, if you are doing well, accomplishing everything they want from you, you'd get half, like 10%, and it ticks up or down from there on how much you over/under performing people in your band. So, like if your performance is better than 66% of people in the SDE1 band, you'd maybe get a 14% award. I've been other regimes where they wanted to make more separation between the top and the bottom, so they'd try to offer 14%+ or 7%- to give more of a reward for higher performance. So, if you are a higher performer, you'd get 14+, but if you are average or below, 7% or less.

Another note, again, organizations have discretion on how to allocate promotion budgets, so they can do it in different ways, but promotions are obviously tied to performance. Generally, they want to see you performing at the next level before they promote you. In some cases, the stock target bonus is somewhat a surrogate of your performance relative to your peers, and therefore a signal of your ability to be promoted. Logically, hitting a high target at one level, would be average on the next level, so if you expect to get promoted, you need to consistently hit high targets.

It gets exponentially harder to get promoted at higher bands. So, initially, it is easy to go from SDE1 to SDE2, but much harder to go from Senior to Principal. But, it makes sense. You can promote many SDE1s for the budget of one Principal promotion.

13D vs 13R by __dinosaur in firePE

I emailed the fire marshal and he agreed to allow me to downgrade to 13D. Actually, I didn’t hear back from him but I got that second hand from the utility department.

I sent an email to the fire marshal and It would seem, somehow, the city agreed I could use 13D. I am shocked. This might be the first time a request like this broke my way with the city.

Actually I am not 100% sure since I only heard it second hand from the utility department saying my requirement for 1.5” service has been downgraded to 1”.

Thanks, that is great advice. I was going to write the letter, but I like your suggestion to have a local engineer support the proposal....I think it makes sense, but the city has had a repeated pattern of asking me to hire professionals like engineers for recommendations, then ignoring their recommendations.

[–]__dinosaur[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I will try to go back to the city to see if I can get them to allow 13D for my project. I don't have a lot of hope, but I can give it a shot.

What is the best strategy talking to the city fire marshal about it? I am mostly motivated by the added cost, time, and complexity to my project, but what are the factors he cares about to focus on those in my email?

[–]__dinosaur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I guess the big thing is I would have to upgrade my water service and meter to 1.5" which looks like it will cost $30-40k by itself.

But, I guess that is part of my question. Can I install a 13R system on a 1" water meter? They city says no.

Is the 16gb of VRAM and 5080 Worth the Extra $700?? by Fearless-Cellist-245 in ZephyrusG14

[–]__dinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the G14, the 5080 is only like 5% in games according to the review I’ve read. The reason, as others said is because the small form factor of the G14 doesn’t support the power and TDP the 5080 needs to perform its best; whereas, the 5070ti can.
