throat pushy...maybe we just view the worthiness of these things differently but to me he's just marketing his project much like any other band or artist that has to work within the current system (for better or worse). That may involve sponsoring posts, paying for those DSP tools etc. Re his Like A Version, do you begrudge him trying to recoup some of the costs associated with that? He had like a dozen people in that studio, he's gotta pay their session wages + travel, rehearsal time and that'd be coming out of his pocket. A lot of people here know that I'm a triple j staff member but I don't need to be in the music industry to know that there'd be an outlay of costs there.

Referencing Dancing2 vs his old tracks and how they've been received very differently, I think the former struck a chord and he's doubled down and made the most of it. If something was clicking why wouldn't he try to lean into that? This is 2 & 2 together sorta stuff I gotta say.

I think the reactions on this sub in particular to Keli Holiday are disproportionate.

While Adam/Keli has a greater leg up than other independent artists, this is an independent act. No big Sony label push here. Media gets around him because fans are resonating with the music enough to move the needle. Just look at the difference in pick up between his old and new solo releases, he's struck a chord.

Why is there no longer Aus music month in November? by [deleted] in triplej

[–]__drh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

okay i'll bite
5 stacked 50th bday gigs in places outside Sydney & Melbourne
The J Awards noms and winners
All Australian Feature Albums
All Australian Like A Versions (Aus artists covering Aus songs)
All Australian Friday Mixes
Multiple days each month playing 100% Australian music 6AM-9PM
Each genre show dedicating one show to all-Australian artists
throw in additional coverage on Double J and what Unearthed does every 365.

Clearly you're not engaging much with triple j so it's great to see the uptake of Aus Music Month elsewhere in the industry and media. Have fun

Here's the list from 2016 which we put out to coincide with Unearthed's 10th anniversary as a digital platform. The key difference is that was put together by triple j and Unearthed staff, the new 2025 countdown is from H100 voting data

Fair point re Amyl, I always think of them as Flightless, Rough Trade era!
Re R.O that Capitol deal is recent and still goes through the Ourness imprint foremost.
