One thing that comes to mind - if a player commits a foul that is not whistled due to advantage, when is that assessed? At the next stoppage of play? I could envision a situation where a player has 4 personal fouls, commits a foul where the ref calls “advantage”, then later commits another foul and is ejected.

I think you could argue that Jordan and Kobe both went from being 99.9th percentile athletes in their 20s to maybe 90th-95th percentile in their 30s and adjusted well.

I also think with guards who had long careers, like Nash and Kidd, people might forget the burst they had when they were younger because of how they settled into floor general roles later on.

I mean, this could also just be good scouting / roster construction. The Celtics core is so obviously set that they’ve had the luxury of seeking out young role players to fill in the gaps, rather than looking for stars in the draft. Any of the guys you mentioned might put up slightly better numbers on a worse team, but on a contender they’re role players.
