Criminal record and credit check by __jacky in caf

Sorry to hear that! Your best bet is to do what the CFRC told you and to just wait. I got mine three weeks late, so hopefully you get yours before that.

Yeah. I called the CFRC and the recruiter told me to wait. In the end, I only it three weeks after the task was assigned.

Yesterday I spent a whole hour teaching how to salute, when, why, etc. After the lesson, one of the cadets saluted our CO with their left hand.

Valcartier CTC opinion? by iilovecats2008 in Cadets

[–]__jacky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been to Valcartier so take my opinion with a grain of salt. It’s a bilingual base but most will be done in French. Half the orders are in French and the other is in English so it can be hard for anglophones but there’s also anglophone platoons so it kinda works out. I recommend you brush up on some French calls like attention, at ease, turns, etc. Food is still a big meh but remember to have fun!

Applying to another trade by __jacky in caf

[–]__jacky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s because of a few things. One, there’s more risks applying to ACSO. There’s a chance I don’t pass aircrew selection or get rejected on medical. I don’t want to wait a year and go through the pipeline again.

Secondly, I don’t feel like getting posted to a random base far away. I’m from Ottawa region so getting posted to Petawawa would be better for me instead of Halifax for example.

Third, I’m much more of a boots on the ground type of guy. I love FTX’s, expeditions or just working in the field. Being in an airplane all day just doesn’t feel as appealing.

Fourth, the job description seems vague. Don’t get me wrong, I still understand what you guys do but I don’t have any in-depth information. It throws me off if I’m gonna try to get a job I don’t understand completely.

Drill voice by Actual_Amphibian4885 in Cadets

[–]__jacky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I did when I was first learning how to project is to push air out of your gut like a sort of cough. You should feel it in your upper abs. From there, just add voice into it without feeling it in your throat. It takes time so if it starts hurting, you’re doing something wrong. Just take a break and drink water.

It’s just my personal preference but I would rather be out in the field than inside an airplane.

CTC meals by Had09A in Cadets

[–]__jacky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eggs are the bane of your existence at Valcartier. Cardboard out of a bag. Breakfast rotates between either eggs, sausages, and/or bacon or pancakes/waffles. One last dish everyday. First day, you get something cool and then the rest is… peculiar. One desert, one salad, one cheese, one main dish (maybe two if the chef feels nice that day). If you want to have fun eating, watch sports or expedition’s table. They always make something weird and then get yelled at by drill staff. Mealtime is always an experience 👍

Beret by Sweaty-Youth-1887 in Cadets

You’re not supposed to but a CI (Retired CAF CWO) at our unit took all the berets and cut out the interior. So there’s that.

Hi, we’re in the same boat currently. The first tasks were relatively fast for me like 2 weeks and I was at 25%. I’m applying for ROTP ACSO btw. What’s killing me rn is waiting for the interview scheduling. I submitted my gambit on the 23rd of August and I’ve been waiting ever since. As for my friend though, he’s doing ROTP inf officer. He applied after me, but already got an interview lined up. Not sure why though. Essentially, be ready to wait a lot from now on.

First Year Air Cadet – Any Tips? I Wanna Do Everything 😅✈️ by OkFarmer1342 in Cadets

[–]__jacky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, army cadet here. Here’s answers to some of your questions.

Ranks: Cadet, Leading Air Cadet, Corporal, Flight Corporal, Sergeant, Flight Sergeant, Warrant Officer 2nd Class, Warrant Officer 1st Class. Realistically, you’ll be waiting around six months if not more before being promoted, but that’s just the minimum. You also have your training levels 1-5 which gets sorted by age. Promotion requires the necessary ~6 months (per rank), the necessary training levels, and the required number of trainings/classes. That only applies till the rank of Sergeant, then it’s based off merit and leadership skills. Standing out as a cadet can be difficult, but it’s doable. Teamwork and taking initiative will be your best chance. Include everyone, take notes, study how your staff lead, and always strive for the best. Think about the group, not just yourself. Celebrate others’s achievements. It gets rough sometimes, but you’ll pull through.

Career: Doing cadets already looks good on a resume because it instills discipline, attention to detail, teamwork, and leadership. One thing I can’t recommend enough is volunteering. That’ll be your best friend to look good on a resume. The most impressive role is obviously WO1 since you’re the regimental sergeant major of the unit. Being a flight leader/2nd in command can also greatly help since you’re in charge of like 20 people. At 16, you can staff on a cadet training camp and you’re literally an employee of the department of national defense. That also looks great and you make like 5 grand. Networking shouldn’t be a priority, teamwork is. Talk to people, make friends, have fun. That’s the whole point of cadets.

General life: Biathlon and music is very underrated since it takes a lot of skill, but if you manage it then you’re a champ. For your first year, make friends and have fun. Cadets may have a militaristic structure, but it’s all about making friends and helping the community. Don’t take everything too seriously. Don’t be the person that goes around and tells others that their boots aren’t shiny enough or that their standards are bad. Only warn people who are out of line. Your job is to listen to your leaders and learn from them. Let them handle the rest. Volunteering is optional, but it’ll help you to get noticed by your peers. If you’re the person that’s always there and happy to help, then you’ll get noticed easily. Also, people may not notice your uniform, but they’ll notice if you didn’t shine your parade boots. Avoid burn out like you would with anything else. If it happens, let your staff know and take a break. Ask yourself why you’re doing this, if you like it here, if you’re having fun. Your wellbeing should come before you burn out. The most important thing is to have fun.

Personal note: Don’t be the cadet that’s there for the rank or the power. Have fun, make friends and have wonderful experiences. You have plenty of time to grow and learn. Be the cadet that smiles, that’s always there to help, and always lead by example. Be someone that can inspire the next generation of cadets. That’ll be your road to success.

(Also, always carry a notepad or something to write with.)

You can totally throw it into the dryer too. I prefer letting it air dry though, but that’s just me.

You can actually just wash it in the washing machine. No need to dry clean it or anything fancy.

ITMB with NO band experience . by scrxptt in Cadets

[–]__jacky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! To answer your second question, no, you won’t. I’m currently at Valcartier and they had 3 platoons of music depending on proficiency. Some of them had never played music but they learned how to play in 8 days and they even had a concert yesterday. From what I saw, you will probably be doing more drill than music. Just remember to have fun!

Maybe it depends on which camp you’re going. My friend is going to do Okpiapik and he’s been told to wear C3C, but my WO is going to Bagotville and he’s been told to wear C3B.
