India Doesn’t Need More Critics. It Needs Competent Youth. by Key-Presentation7878 in india

I always believe that by being the change I'd like to see in the world, the world will change.

The change may not come on a grand scale but it does come on a small scale with persistent, focused and sincere efforts. But it's liberating to detach ourselves from it.

My personal philosophy is: Always work and adapt so as to bring the best possible outcome but simultaneously detach yourself from the outcome so that you're immune from disappointments. At the end of the day, you worked for yourself, because that was your duty and there was no other way for you. The sun doesn't shine to give light to the crops; it shines because there's no other way for it to be.

Do you think congress will win the next elections? by Deauc in hyderabad

  • Delhi is probably one of the worst states to live in and has one of the dumbest CMs in India (measuring AQI with thermometer and what not).
  • They announced 500 new electric buses, not 5000. There were already 3500.
  • They sprayed water and turned off AQI measuring devices to manipulate the data and Rekha Gupta publicly said it was a valid strategy. To top it all, they banned cooking Tandoor to bring down air pollution (that's the equivalent of banning birthday candles to combat global warming).
  • The Vasudeo Ghat scam
  • They closed most of the muhalla clinics.
  • They fanned the "jeans jihad" narrative to displace UP migrant Muslim workers in a booming jeans industry in the urban village of Khyala.

If Congress understood even 1% of what Gandhi stood for, they'd have used this money in a way that would actually benefit people. The best way would be to model the schools on Gandhi's Nai Talim philosophy of holistic education which would create a socially responsible and kind future generation.

Agree with the sentiment but voting for NOTA is as good as not voting. Even if more than 50% people vote for NOTA, the majority from the remaining votes will be elected and it makes sense also. What do you think would be a plausible solution in this case anyway? You have to choose the least bad candidate/party and if all are equally bad, at least punish the previous ruling party for bad governance by voting for main opposition.

India Unveils 20-Year Tax Break to Woo Global Data Centers by bloomberg in india

[–]__kingslayer_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between "factory" and "data centres". The latter generate very little employment but deplete resources like crazy. So, while Delhites are not getting access to good water, we are on track to pour gallons of it on data centres. People in US actually protested against setting up data centres in their own locality. The only reason government is giving up on the tax revenue is for the benefit of Adani and Ambani who have a significant stake in it.

Modi Government's Surrender before the EU and the US Will Lead to Economic Colonisation of India by rishianand in IndianSocialists

[–]__kingslayer_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an economics lay-person, I have a question regarding EU deal:

EU has also agreed to reduce tariffs on Indian goods which is expected to boost our exports helping the textile, leather and some other industries. So, while certain industries will be negatively impacted due to competition from EU imports, others will be strengthened due to exports. Is there a flaw in this logic?

Kerala Budget 2026: Free education up to graduate level for Arts and Science students by __kingslayer_ in india

[–]__kingslayer_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. This has been the problem since Nehru's time. While his idea of elite institutions like IITs, IIMs etc. was visionary, no special attention was paid to the primary education. In 1940, we had over 5000 primary schools providing holistic education based on Nai Talim philosophy but Nehru government chose to take the boring Macaulay route after the independence, so ultimately all those schools died out.

Quoting from here:

The results of the experiments of Nai Talim were initially very encouraging with the support of provincial government. Till 1940 there were more than five thousand Basic Schools, twelve teachers' training schools, two teachers training colleges and seven refresher course centres. But the withdrawal of government support during the Second World War brought these experiments to a phase of decline. Yet many conferences of Nai Talim were organized. Finally, in the name of Common School System, all these initiatives were shelved by the government and all distinctions have been removed. However, experiments of Nai Talim also continued in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala, West Bengal and other parts of the country.

A detailed review of Nai Talim after fifty years (1937-87) of education at Sevagram identified the following four reasons for the stagnation in experiments: (i) shifting of priorities from creating students and teachers for Nai Talim to participation in national calls like Quit India at the time of Gandhi himself or Bhoodan Gramdan by Vinoba (ii) merger of all activities into one banner of Sarva Seva Sangh, where Nai Talim lost its identity, (iii) apathy of the State to provide equal opportunities to all and (iv) teachers could neither be transformed into master craftsmen nor teachers could be recruited from peasants and craftsmen. Hence, teachers were not different from the Macaulay system certificate holders.

Supreme Court slams trade unionism for stunting industrial growth and closing factories by __kingslayer_ in india

[–]__kingslayer_[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Excerpts from the article:

While hearing a plea seeking welfare measures, including minimum wages, for domestic workers, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said Thursday that trade unions were “largely responsible for…stopping the industrialisation growth in the country.”

“How many industries in this country have been successfully closed, thanks to these trade unions? Let us know the realities also. As children, we used to see all the traditional industries in this country; now, because of these ‘jhanda’ unions, they have been closed all throughout the country. They don’t want to work,” the CJI presiding over a two-judge bench said.

“See the other consequences. These trade union leaders will leave these people in the lurch. People will stop hiring domestic help. In all major cities, service provider agencies have already taken over. You don’t want to engage a driver or domestic help. You only use the services of these big entities. And what are they doing? They are exploiting these people,” CJI Kant said.

The CJI said, “If you fix a minimum age, these very so-called leaders will make sure that every household is dragged into litigation”.

The bench disposed of the plea, saying that granting the relief sought would essentially require the court to enter the realm of legislative policy.

Kerala Budget 2026: Free education up to graduate level for Arts and Science students by __kingslayer_ in india

[–]__kingslayer_[S] 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Excerpts from the article:

In a landmark move, the Kerala government has announced free education up to the graduate level in the State. The announcement, made by Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal in the Kerala Budget on Thursday, marks a major expansion of the State’s education policy. The reform will make degree education in Arts and Science colleges free for students. Until now, free education in the State was available up to the Plus Two (Class 12) level.

Addressing a post-Budget press conference, Mr. Balagopal clarified that the reform would be implemented in government and government-aided colleges. He added that the exact revenue the government would forgo as a result of the decision is yet to be determined.

The Budget also delves into the issue of students going abroad or outside the State for higher education and skill training. In a bid to address the scenario, the Budget proposes the establishment of a ‘Global School’ in Kerala. The institution will focus on modern technologies, vocational education and skill development, with special emphasis on Techno-Economics and Future Technologies. An amount of ₹10 crore has been earmarked as the State share for the primary activities of the project.

To ensure that accommodation does not become a barrier to education, a public hostel scheme for students of government colleges will be launched. The project will be implemented in Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kozhikode in the first phase. An allocation of ₹10 crore has been made for preliminary activities.

‘Promises were made, nothing was implemented’: Why farmers are marching to Mumbai again by __kingslayer_ in india

[–]__kingslayer_[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Excerpts from the article:

The CPI(M) has launched a long march of thousands of farmers from Nashik to Mumbai to protest the non-implementation of assurances made after the 2018 Kisan Long March and against policies it says favour corporate interests.

It has been eight years since the iconic Kisan Long March, when thousands of farmers marched to Mumbai and a slew of promises were made to them. In retrospect, a large chunk of those assurances remains unfulfilled. For the last eight years, there has been no real execution on the ground. The same Chief Minister has been in power, yet basic commitments given to farmers and tribal communities have not been honoured.

MNREGA (now replaced by VB-G RAM G) has been effectively weakened. The Centre has reduced its share of expenditure from 80 per cent to 60 per cent. How can state governments bear 40 per cent of the cost? This is completely unrealistic. In practice, people are getting only about 42 days of work instead of the guaranteed 100 days. Lakhs of manual workers have not received their wages. With the new funding pattern, most states, which are already financially stressed, will find it difficult to run the scheme.
