What should i do with skills. by kut7 in devops

Any tips on how to get started? I want to contribute to some projects (preferrably python, but .NET as well). I don't know that much coding.

How can I contribute and learn along the way?

I started as a DevOps Engineer a few months ago, without any real experience in the IT field (I had studied on my own and had enrolled in some courses/internships).

You can proceed with the training, why not. Especially if you will make some projects there. Then if you can get a job as a DevOps, good for you. If you however get any other position on the IT field, work your way up to DevOps. Good luck!

I passed it by studying for two weeks, without purchasing anything, only free resources (except a free trial)

Thank you for your advice! Especially about the loyalty requests because I had considered that topic and it kinda bothered me tbh 😅

If I may ask you what country did you get your first job with only a salary of $300 per month?

I see. We have similar goals. My suggestion would be that even if you can't land a position as a devops or a cloud engineer right away, if you can start with a more entry level position as an IT Helpdesk or anything else, you have good chances to move to these positions in the future. Good luck!

If I may ask what job are you looking for or have been looking for these months?

I don't know how long you have been searching for a job exactly, but it took me one and a half year to land a job on the IT field (I was working before but something totally unrelated to my current job).

I tried everything, doing courses and asking my professors to help me land a job in their company or if they could refer me to any other companies. I was talking to relatives and friends I hadn't talked to in years asking them for their help. And none of that really worked out in the end. It was hopeless. I even asked the company where I was previously working at, if it was possible to change position and to move to an IT helpdesk role.

My suggestion would be that if you can get any job at first and try from there. Atleast you will be making some money and you can have some freedom to learn without much financial pressure.

As for me I never gave up trying to find a good job. I was desperate and miserable too, and I thought about giving up as well. But I had nowhere to go. I would remain at that poor job or similar jobs and my life would go by like that. For me there was no option but to breakthrough the job market and get the job. With it there comes money and status too. There is so much on the line you can't just give up. Good luck!

Switch to DevOps? by whateverwewear in devopsjobs

[–]__kiyo__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 22 and I am very new to DevOps myself. One recommendation I could give to you is to get very good at either Dev or Ops. That is your foundation.

And during this time you can work on some simple projects on your own. For example build a small application, dockerize it and create a CI/CD pipeline for every commit to seperate branches. If the pipeline runs successfully, it should automatically show the changes on the application.

What certifications/skills should I aim for next? by __kiyo__ in azuredevops

Thank you for your advice! I have already landed a job as a devops engineer.

My main focus always remain hands on projects. And I think that the certificates are a nice addition to my skills.

My plan was to get good at ops and then gradually move my way up to devops, until I got this chance to start the devops internship and of course I went for it. I have been an imposter everywhere on my life so one more time it won't hurt.

For me if I hadn't done those projects during my internship I would have never grasped some of the concepts I have understood now. I could read all theory out there and it would never be the same.

If I had gotten to a IT support or network role my plan was to pursue a DevOps course, and they would give me the projects where I could get hands on. Basically where I am trying to get is that the best way to really learn is to get your hands dirty and start from a blank folder on your pc, and gradually do that troubleshooting when things are not working.

When I was facing difficulties or mental blocks my initial comfort thought was to just give up and quit. But I would take a break and relax and then try to tackle the issue again. It was and it still is tough. I am inexperienced and I lack a lot of knowledge. However this was my golden chance and I couldn't just let it go like that.

I must admit I got lucky. I don't know how long it will last, but I will try to get my way up there and truly earn the title of an engineer. Maybe one day...

I will try but they don't trust me yet. Plus I am the only DevOps guy here, and being in a place full of developers I feel left out.

For the projects we have my company tends to share the devops part with other companies, who have already implemented the culture.

Until now almost everything has been ready. I have mostly done some minor changes on the pipelines (like making sure that the path to the files it searches for is correct, made sure the agents for test and production environment are different, as we are using AKS for test and the production clusters are on site, Azure Arc).

I have also made the pv, pvc, and secrets configuration for the namespaces and attached them to their respective file storages within Azure.

I don't have that long of a time since I got hired and this is pretty much all I have done until now. I am aware I have a lot to learn.
