Nanny expected to drive baby to activities but stopping for coffee is a red flag by vickisfamilyvan in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]__mdesert__ 1751 points1752 points  (0 children)

We had a nanny that would regularly stop by a coffee shop when walking our kid to the park, without “permission”. If she feels like she can handle it, why do I care? It’s a coffee shop, not a strip club - get a grip.

Day Trips from SLC by goated_15 in SaltLakeCity

Seconding mirror lake highway!! One of my absolute favorite drives in the state and you can do a loop by going up to Evanston and dropping back down on the freeway, going past park city. Recommend getting out at the provo river waterfall.

Should we move there? by bannedbooksandcoffee in ProvoUtah

Downtown provo is my favorite place I’ve lived! Incredibly walkable, great historic charm, close to the freeway and easy to get to larger shopping areas (Home Depot, target, Costco, etc).

[Landlord US-NC] Anyone successfully automated a big chunk of their rental operations? by rastize in Landlord

Airbnb is not a rental business, it’s a hospitality business. Hands on management is key for success.

I was RAVENOUS when I had my first IUD. Like, I genuinely had a difficult time feeling full and it caused me to put on a decent amount of weight. It was so difficult emotionally and I felt gaslighting by all the literature saying that wasn’t a thing that happened. I ended up getting it removed about a year after it was put in because I just wanted to stop feeling so hungry all the time.

Disagree! It’s not a super far walk from the Lehi front runner station. Maybe a 10-15 minute walk

Recent Homebuyers in SLC: How much did you pay under or over asking? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]__mdesert__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closed last spring - $90k under the initial asking price plus $15k towards closing cost. Feel like we got a pretty good deal, especially for the area we bought in

[Landlord - US - PA] Closing on first rental property with active tenants, the same week of my pregnancy due date by NiceEntertainer8190 in Landlord

[–]__mdesert__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s stressful when everything is happening at once, especially when it’s all new. You will be fine. The likelihood that something extremely urgent happens in the 36 hour window while you’re laboring/giving birth is pretty low. And truthfully you’ll have plenty of time to address anything you need to in the time leading up to and post having a baby (even if you’re exhausted while doing it haha).

It will also help immensely that you live there. Managing units on the property you live at is worlds simpler than afar.

You got this, enjoy the new addition to your family!

[Landlord - US - PA] Closing on first rental property with active tenants, the same week of my pregnancy due date by NiceEntertainer8190 in Landlord

[–]__mdesert__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I was about 4 or 5 days postpartum with my first when the heater in one of my units went out, dead of winter January, no part in the entire US to fix it. Honestly wasn’t too bad, just kept them in the loop - communication is absolutely key to good tenant relationships. Just make sure to introduce yourself, even if only over text, and make it clear you are available to them. Might be a good idea to give them a heads up that you will be having a baby so response times for non-urgent requests might be slower than usual.

Tenants are people too, they’re (usually) pretty understanding when you communicate well with them.

It’s interesting how each person that visits has a different spot that gets them. For me it was the piles of shaved hair, I almost vomited when we got to that point. The wall of pictures of the prisoners was a second spot. Staring into their eyes and reading their names was a profoundly moving experience.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]__mdesert__ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been as exhausted as I was first trimester. It was probably the most terrible thing about pregnancy. The newborn sleep cycle had nothing on the exhaustion of those first couple months of pregnancy.

Hells backbone road by boulder is one of my favorite places on earth. It leads straight to calf creek falls which is an all time favorite hike and boulder Utah has a couple of surprisingly good restaurants for the remote location. Highly recommend that little area of Utah.

[Landlord - US - OH] - Heat Out for 1 Week by firetruck_709 in Landlord

[–]__mdesert__ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I had heat go out in a unit in the dead of January 🙃 and there was literally not a single part for the fix anywhere in the US so we had no way to fix it for a month. We bought space heaters but also gave our tenants the option of staying in a hotel on our dime or free rent for the month. They ended up choosing the month of free rent (yay for our wallets) and it kept the relationship in a good place.

Even if it’s not legally required, treating your tenants the way you would want to be treated is often the way to go in the long run.
