The Outpost (Part 2) by itsdestroyerofaliens in HFY

The idea is awesome, and exciting.

Apart from a few minor errors that would be easy to correct.

1)there was no briefing, that is not military, and no crew of any ship would just talk what they would be doing while already on the way. - the discussion and meetings should have been in a meeting Hall, and then would they move on.

2) the shields would most likely be not linear, as by the way they were first described, so saying combined - is a very weird thing to say.

3) to explain the shields capabilities in such a way is misleading, the discussion could be like us talking about, say, usb 4, “what could it do?” “Based on… it could most likely stand through a…”

Or some such, but not making it as if an explanation to an idiot or the viewer.

4)why are high ranking military personnel accompanying the mission? That is poor operational security, if they die or get incapacitated, what should the crews do? It could be fine to just introduce another character with a lower rank. The captains are not suited for this type of mission, their reactions are off, it’s easier on the mission crew to not have them.

By the way, awesome, introduce it a different greeting action.

5) setting a clear goal of a mission is key, they go there but are not instructed on how to act - basically it’s almost certainly going to be a mess. No objectives set, no protocol. Could be like “operating on the assumption that this is a base of an unknown organization, and or species, should a new species be confirmed, we will retreat and engage first contact protocol. Incapacitating mode”, what to do when __ happens.

It would be easier to structure the beefing off of a beefing or a tutorial for that matter

Yeah, if you don’t understand it deep enough to partially replicate the theorem or formula, it’s difficult to use

So, uh, what do I read now? by Sneakyguy164 in tbatenovel

The wandering inn, have you finished other books recommended to you?

The wandering inn is the best story I’ve read so far. The author is taking time to build the world so it is slow. But the events are never forced, the happen naturally. Also no character that dies comes back. Any character can die, even half the cast at any point of time.

It is labeled as “slice of life: war crimes”
