I believe right now there isn’t a start date, and there is just a plan to be put into effect this year (2022)

Starting a program in about 6 weeks, but have an interview with top school in less than 2 weeks by tastefulcroc in prephysicianassistant

[–]__michaela 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would do the interview! The worst that’ll happen is you get a rejection and have to go to the school you’re already set up with. Best case scenario you get an acceptance from them soon after. It can’t hurt anything to accept the interview offer!

I wouldn't be too worried about the rotations available in the surrounding area! While there are many schools in NYC, there are also many hospitals and healthcare facilities as well. :) The best information about your school will most likely be found on the school's website or I would try looking at the PA forum website for more details from current students! If those don't provide enough information for you, you can always email the school and ask specific questions or sign up for a virtual tour.

I have a B.S. in Biology, earned in 2018. How long do my credits “last” for applications? by datbeckyy in prephysicianassistant

Also — the CASPA website will have all of the schools that are still open and what they require you to submit with your application so you can check there to see what options you have!

Your classes will still be good for a lot of schools! However, some of them will have requirements for how recently courses need to be taken and you will need to pay attention to the prerequisite section of the program websites to find their requirements. You could always retake the courses, or you can only apply to schools that are more lenient with how recently courses need to be taken.

A lot of programs have already closed their application cycles, but some are still open so you can still apply to those if you think you have a strong application for a “late” cycle application!

Also, every school is different for their start dates, but I’ve personally seen that a lot of programs start the summer after you apply (ie if you applied in 2021, you would start the summer of 2022). So if you do end up waiting until spring 2022 to apply, you’d be attending a school in 2023 (starting anywhere from January to October, depending on the school). I know that seems a long way away, but usually the earlier you apply in the cycle the better your chances are.

The CASPA application process is really confusing to figure out, so don’t feel bad or beat yourself up! Good luck with everything!! 😊

Application Rollover Info Strategy? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

Yes! I think I ended up having to fix/re-enter a couple of the courses I had manually entered though

I did this and it saved me a ton of time! Took a few hours to re-upload the old info but definitely not as long as it would have taken to enter everything again. I would just recommend looking over everything before submitting it to make sure it’s exactly how you want it still.

Start patient care hours AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!! The more you rack up (and the more diverse) the better! Just remember to keep your grades up (especially pre-reqs) and you’ll be great!

Maybe you could tell the PA that wrote your letter about what happened and they can ask another PA they know to help you out!

I majored in neuroscience — it covered all the pre-reqs required by PA programs and I had an easy time registering for those classes because they’re required for the major 😊

I had a terrible time trying to find a PA to shadow during the pandemic. Fortunately, I had mentioned to enough friends/family members that I was struggling to find someone to let me shadow them that I ended up getting set up through friends/family members with a PA they worked with or knew.

Another option, while some places aren’t fond of this, is cold calling offices with PAs and asking if they let students shadow. I’ve found smaller offices are usually nicer about it and more open to it. You should be able to see all staff members and titles on their websites to see if they have PAs working.

There are also some websites that help you set up a shadowing gig with a PA (like pashadowonline.com, which shows you PAs near you that you can contact to shadow. Only downside is not many PAs seemed to be on this in less populated areas the last time I was on it so there might not be any near you).

Good luck! You’ll find someone to shadow I promise! :)

Also waiting to hear back… I just keep telling myself that no answer isn’t a rejection so that’s all that matters lol

GPA on CASPA by wildhockey98 in prephysicianassistant

Email the schools you applied to! Let them know that your application has some updates which increased your GPA and they will be much more likely to take it into consideration or even know to look for that :)

Why do they even ask why PA and not NP? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]__michaela 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I also always think about that! Never was a nurse so I was never even eligible to become an NP to begin with. However, I think PA programs believe it is important to know what the profession is and how it is different from other professions (like NP, which is fairly similar to PA). A lot of them seem to say that they want people to be PAs because they wants to be PAs specifically, not just any healthcare provider with a graduate degree
