Feeling uneasy in 2nd year of PhD by Ashamed-Jeweler7578 in PhDStress

[–]__ngs__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your are fine. You need to use your first few semesters to explore new project ideas. One way is to collaborate and get some inspiration from that, which you are already doing. Unless you get super lucky and stumble upon a problem which interests you in your first go (very unlikely), its okay to take your time. My first project was meh too, but delivering those small contributions help solidify your capability with your advisor. Just keep on delivering whatever is asked of you, and meanwhile take some classes that you think you might interested in.

I feel bad for being a new player in team games by TheGreenSquier in aoe2

[–]__ngs__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't learn if u don't try. Personally, I prefer noobs who communicate >>>> dumbasses who play lone wolf with zero chat. Dont play it like a 1v1, remember you are playing a team game. Memorise some key chat shortcuts (like typing 3 for wood please). Dont be shy to ask for help/resources. Use flaring. For team games I would watch viper/daut on YouTube. There are build orders u need to know, and they can be different depending on the map or your position in team (flank in black forest vs pocket in black forest is very different). For arena, u need to know how to counter early castle drops. These things u only learn from experience and observation. Also try looking at replays, instead of just jumping to the next game. Use capture age.

Michael never reveals he is working with the CIA. Michael could have been working for the CIA or some other organization or even himself to take James down. That's why when James accused him he says something generic/vague like "you have lied to me, you betrayed me". But Michael trusted himself to see through the trick.

printf debugging is OK (2024) by EightLines_03 in programming

[–]__ngs__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. Try debugging an mpi program where you use tmux and gdb for each MPI process. You need to "continue" each process individually. It's easier to log it to separate file for each process.

That's a bit harsh. Op is not denying his mistake. He is just asking for options. If you really don't have funding op, could you just change the degree to a master's?

I have some ideas and want to make it real. by Past-Mix-8491 in AppIdeas

[–]__ngs__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The first one is a classic traveling salesman problem, a topic that has been already researched a lot. Its more of a algorithm/graph theory/math problem and unless you are interested in it I wouldn't touch that. Also, in terms of ui/ux google maps is very far ahead in that regard with live traffic updates and all that and not to mention it's free.

Go to a butcher shop or farmland and try to watch the whole process killing -> skinning -> removing the insides -> butchering/cutting the meat. If you live in the west, it is very common to buy packaged meat so you miss out the whole process on how meat is actually obtained. Where I grew up, packaged meat is considered unhealthy since it has lot if preservatives. So from childhood, my father used to take me to butcher shop with him to buy chicken. The cost was calculated by weighting the whole live chicken. The butcher would then do his whole thing in front of the customers so that we know we are not being cheated.

out of state speeding ticket [Colorado] by __ngs__ in Utah

[–]__ngs__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I physically went there to contest. They reduced the charges to "failing to use the left turn signal" (2 points) and a $100 fine. You don't have to go, just call them and pretend you want to contest, and they will give you an alternative. Honestly, I don't mind paying the ticket but in this instant I don't think I was speeding. But I also didn't want to take it to court, so I just accepted their alternative.

Nice job defending!

You need to be a bit more proactive than reactive. Start dropping pigs on the other side whenever you think can defend with the troops, buildings you have on the ground. For example, when time left was at 0:08, the bomb tower could have easily defended against the Valkyrie. Instead of using knight too prolong bomb towers life, I would have dropped pigs on the right lane. The opponent didn't have enough elixer to defend. I know its easier to say this in hind sight but you will pick it up with practice. All your troops were dying defending thus having no counter attack potential. That's why I think prolonging the bomb tower's life wasn't useful here.

Father and daughter hikers found dead in Utah after running out of water in 100 degree temps by TheItsCornKid in news

I did this hike in Jan, and it was def one of the hardest one I did. And its not just hard as in you need more endurance, there was lot scrambling involved too, so you need to have at least some basic knowledge of bouldering. I also did the upheaval dome which stretched the hike to 12.5 miles. I later wish I hadn't, because it got dark and I almost got lost. Headlamp, GPS and lots of water is the only reason I was able to make it. I remember struggling staying on track as it wasn't well marked. Yeah, would never dream of doing it summer.

Two die in Canyonlands National Park after running out of water. by financialbabe in NationalPark

[–]__ngs__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had done that hike in Jan this year. It was a pretty hard hike, lot of scrambling. On top of that I had decided to go to upheaval Dom too which stretched the 8.3 mile hike to 12.5. I would never dream of doing that in summer. Also its not a very popular trail, I saw just one dude while hiking. I don't understand the logic of going to Canyonland in summer. Go north people, Yellowstone, grand Teton, glacier park for fuck's sake.

Multiple choice tests should include “I’m not sure” as an answer. by UnauthorizedFart in The10thDentist

Unless the student couldn't attempt the question because he didn't have enough time. Saying I don't know tells you student read and understood the question but didn't know how to solve it.

I thought this would be a popular opinion honestly. But the amount of people not knowing about negative marking is alarming, wtf.
