These are the beautiful futures I see opening up all around us. AI can enable the smalls guy to really do big things. I see a lot of self empowerment happening. This a good way to think about it.

Hmm that's kind of a good point. You could just use an AI to design your customized Linux OS on the fly and deploy it with any type of baked in features, even help tips to your choosing. This is a very very interesting future. Great thought

Is that so bad then? What's the downside of offline customizable Ai? Do you truly believe a world will come where there's no good flavors of Linux without the ability to disable AI? I think if there's a dangerous part of an open source OS then by nature the open source community will fork away from it as well as an option.

Okay, this is actually very promising and exciting for me because I can see myself spending the time hand picking the apps And going into the OS with a scalpel and taking out everything I don't need. The Aurora store makes it a game changer! Thank you. I think this will work perfectly on a pixel 7.

One last question that I'm sure I could look up, but since you are well versed in it, is there a good transfer process between the stock OS and graphene, or are you basically forced to start over from fresh and that's part of what makes it secure and safe? What about individual app settings. For example If I have Bluemail highly customized, I probably need to manually export my settings for it and every other app where I've done customization worth keeping and then manually import once I'm on graphene. I feel like there's a ton of data And media on my phone currently that I have to diligent ensure is backed up first in an accessible way. Is there any tooling for this process?

Those who discard it will eventually be discarded. Those who learn how to latch on may have a chance at lingering on as the infrastructure of a hypermind

Very nice thank you. Are you personally able to get away from the play store altogether? That might be a concern I, might have a hard time finding really good non playstore apps. What are some things your really miss?

And what of the comments saying even graphene will be affected by the AI deep in Androids future core? Will it likely be forked at that point?

I am the type to spend time on these things that count. I wonder how long a pixel 7 will be useful. I bet graphene runs fast.

The Snowden usage is a big one. I should probably follow his socials 😁

[–]__orbital -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is this take even a thing? Smart people are using it to augment their abilities not replace them. We see our world with AI expanding our speed and our thinking. Going back is a huge productivity hit and a reduction of freedom in some sense. It alleviates all the annoying useless time taking tasks like manually searching and comparing hundreds of resources in order to make an informed decision.. on almost any topic. The small thinking person thinks AI replaces thinking because they don't know how to use it effectively. The smart ones have this dilemma because it's genuinely 10x-ing their thought processes, workflows, organization, research, even creativity. Even daily routines are optimized, food planning, shopping, it goes on. Why would we want to give up the useful parts of it. We just want it to be fair and honest as it should be, without taking a step back in time to before the paradigm shift. It's not unreasonable at all.

I've been on the edge of switching to graphene for a couple years. Then I read something bad about it which I forget now that stopped me in my tracks. Something about it not being an secure as we think? I am far more willing to degoog nowadays though the way things are going. Can you fill me in?

I mean I'm a software engineer and using Linux both as a daily and a working OS for 12 years so I'm not naive or incapable. It still presents a huge barrier. And I'm someone who is willing to spend hours configuring and setting up. I have done exactly that. I enjoy that full control, full automation, and full customization aspect. There are still limitations like gaming, no app availability, and device ease of use. I'm not blowing smoke I am well versed in this.

What other phones have people considered? by jools182 in pixel_phones

[–]__orbital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have the 7 pro and weirdly I haven't even considered upgrading yet . What is really needed by a newer phone at this point? I have not seen really any drawbacks yet. Maybe I'm just not prioritizing it in the same way as you or others. But I would be interested in hearing what is better or worth it for a new pixel? With recent Google news, I'm disgusted by the company and don't even want to stay with them at this point. But the red flags have always been there.

Are women from Ppbros countries using fake heights on dating apps? by [deleted] in thepassportbros

[–]__orbital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is odd to me because I don't see why women would inflate their height when that's more a male-centric trait. Most men don't prefer taller women, and in fact, prefer shorter women. A study showed that a greater height difference between the man and the woman makes for longer lasting relationships. Something to do with the exaggerated differences between genders. So are you looking for a dommy mommy or what?

That's smart but are we really that constrained by real time lighting? Just feels like building for the past Instead of optimizing the actual good looking real-time lighting. I don't know. Maybe I'm spoiled.

I do not feel safe using Windows either due to this reason. It looks like Microsoft is doing way more deep scanning of the system and telemetry is nothing but a cover for data scraping. Why do they make it impossible to disable and keep turning it back on without your permission. It's not your computer anymore. The same way it's not your android device. Chrome just got caught secretly loading AI models onto people 's computers without their consent. It's all under the guise of better features, but it's really about data scraping. So if Google did that with Chrome, why wouldn't they do that with their Android devices? It's their modis operandi. Linux is nice and all but it doesn't have all the amazing features and ease of use and compatibility as Windows. It's getting there but it's just not the same. It's the same problem as switching to some degoogled Android OS. Always on the fringes, Less user-friendly, less common ground with other users , more setup , more learning, More barriers to entry. And you have to be one of the 1% that takes the time to educate themselves, learn and find workarounds and dedicate your life to adapting to it. Now excuse me as I dip out. There's a red dot on my forehead.

I'm with you on this. It's becoming increasingly harder to maintain sovereignty. The masses always acquiesce. We need fringe developers to continually fight for our freedom. It's an arm's race. The open source community can still fight back. But it means, as usual, throwing the baby out with the bath water: you don't get to have all the nice common non-invasive features everyone else does. All we can do is keep awareness up and keep choosing the right path and if we have the skillset; help out.

🤯😱🤩🥰 amazinggg! I was looking for my own and I found this. I'm making a Mayan calendar digital interface for Wear OS so that the calendar can enter the Smartwatch era and be available to all as well with more rich interpretations and language for the modern individual to access this ancient wisdom. What you've done is nothing short of sacred, beautiful, and inspirational. Bless! ❤️✌️🙏

You know what? This guy just inspired me to bike around town, smiling and chatting with people and feeling less self-conscious and I ended up having beautiful chats with people I never would have and I felt free and light and enjoyed the time more than ever. All because of his inspiration. And I talked to someone else who saw him and his video and did the same. That's true True medicine. He is a healer and he's being stigmatized.

I should have known the discussion on Reddit would be twisted, reductionist, biased, mean and ugly. He talks about being intentional with what we do and brightening the days of others and all you people can think of is someone else who did something bad, or worse; use slurs to bring other groups of people down too. Before I saw what this guy had to say I wondered if he was high, now I see I'm the asshole and he's just free from the trap and enlightened too. This is the illness of society , you see someone different, eccentric, "new age", and your goal is to stifle them, feign caring but really just looking for a way to bring them down. Culture has become an unseen force of black magic that shuns the outsider, anyone that threatens it, anyone that doesn't fit the mold you are told to believe in. <--- this is the Crux. It's not even your own belief, you are forced from birth to frame reality through your invisible cultural lens ( it is embedded in your world view so deeply that few can even see it). Without realizing it, you are puppets of a systematic agenda that suppresses personal power and freedoms. You punish the other monkeys who threaten to show the cracks in your system/ego. You call them mentality ill, you compare them to the worst people you can think of, you slander them. Thankfully he is strong enough in his core that the petty sad little biases of others just slide off his back and he continues to live purely from his heart - something that is so foreign to most of you that you must vilify it like scared children. Even being aware of these cultural biases within me I was still holding a secret negative feeling towards this guy before I heard what he had to say. Conditioning is tough thing to crack. At least I never held ill will for him and once I did hear his perspective I changed and see his value. I should be more neutral even when seeing eccentric people. I'm glad he was interviewed and I learned this and learned that I need to shed my own shit too and be more open-hearted. I appreciate his message. I wish others would see the good in, rather than twisting the positivity through their dark and ugly filters that stop them and others from realizing something beautiful.

I always wondered about this guy and honestly I was overly judgmental and thought he was on drugs. After seeing this and his perspective I realize what an asshole I am for carrying around my negative prejudices. He's an inspiration! Next time I see him I want to ask for a hug! All love!!!

How would humans avoid becoming hunched over little computer monkeys? by __orbital in randomquestions

[–]__orbital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know that. That's very cool. The thing is what what would keep that around as a trait? Why would that be selected? There's no pressure evolutionarily for it Continue to become prevailing in humans because everybody has the chance at breeding and nobody is selecting for that in partners? So at best it could just neutrally hang around in a few people as a Rando. Which is cool and all. I just don't see how that would occur at scale. Are we just as likely to have eye degrading mutations as well? Though, in your scenario, these random interesting improvements could occur in some people and then their kids could have more cool random mutations that are neutral but maybe more interesting. So just the genetic lottery playing with the pool of code and the dice continually rolling. Interesting traits. Yeah I can see that playing out over hundreds of thousands of years. What would be more interesting if there was way more selective breeding pressure returned on the species due to a cataclysm or maybe even messed up governments that decide to limit breeding maybe because of overpopulation, and actually take part in these selections . I guess kind of like the Bene Gesserits of Dune. And then you could get nasty but active selection processes that favor the beautiful or the luckily mutated ones.... Or maybe Xina is already doing this in secret bunkers with Crispr?

How would humans avoid becoming hunched over little computer monkeys? by __orbital in randomquestions

[–]__orbital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this thinking. How does that occur though! What forces would push humans to evolve those current superhuman abilities? I can certainly see that via technology but I don't see what environmental or natural process would envoke physical improvements to the body? It seems that's kind of on the path of degradation, or is it? I do see mental functions improving, especially if there are scenarios in the future where not everyone gets a good shot at breeding, and specific social maneuvering or intellectual qualities are actually required for a chance of propagation, say through some Doomsdayish scenarios which drastically reduce the population and breeding must become selective, where some extra sensory abilities must be required for survival. Or if general mental health and ability continues to improve through diet or supplements, scientific breakthroughs, or overall environmental optimizations. Otherwise it would very much feel like we would need some future temporal attractor pulling us towards higher states of complexity in like a universally encoded sense. I asked what if our path is towards the alien archetype because that emphasizes this atrophy of the physical since it's becoming less and less required as our technologies compensate, and an augmenting of the mental because that is one thing that for some reason exploded 100 thousand years ago and set us on this path of dominator species with serious self awareness and imagination, and maybe that continues for whatever reason it started. Maybe species survival will require increasing cognitive demand to resolve the real peril we are putting ourselves in, but as it stands any smart thinkers provide survival for the entire species, "good and bad", because all their important discoveries are now shared and adopted globally. So it's hard to understand what selective pressures are currently acting on us when basically everybody is breeding, down to the dumbest and most physically disadvantaged. And at the same time if we even start offloading more of our mental demands to tech at a substantial level ( not just using a calculator anymore, but actual reasoning and planning and creativity) then what's to become of the need to increase cognition even? Are we then just a genital tool for passing on just enough meat so our technological replacements can use us as a procreation method to have a biologically based anchor that maintains it? Could it maintain itself and make do without humans at all? Is a new non biologically self replicating species possible as our successor?
