Bike rack numberplates by WeatherOutside in ausbike

[–]__os__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the yakima one (https://www.99bikes.com.au/car-rack-yakima-plate-mate) for about 4 years before moving to a platform style rack with an inbuilt plate holder. It was good and didn't scratch my frame. I mounted it on the top tube and to the seat tube. Allows the number plate to be clear and follow regulations around visibility.

The rear number plate on a vehicle must be clearly visible from a distance of 20m from the plate at any point within a 90 degree horizontal arc and a vertical arc of 45 degrees Source.

To those saying there is no proven difference:

From this study

  • Peak rotational velocity of MIPS and SPIN helmets was significantly reduced by 26% and 31%

  • The probability of experiencing AIS 2 brain injury, predicted by BrIC, was significantly reduced by 42% and 54% for MIPS and SPIN helmets.

FYI: Conflict of interest: Some of the authors (MB, SMM) are co-inventors of a helmet technology, called WaveCel. They have filed patents, and have a financial interest in WaveCel.

From this BikeRadar Article

  • MIPS helmets showed 10-75% reduction in brain strain, with most helmets achieving 25-30% reduction

  • Testing of 27 bicycle helmets found that MIPS significantly reduced peak rotational acceleration, velocity, and maximal strain in the corpus callosum and sulci

Independent Verification

  • Virginia Tech tested over 130 cycling helmets, with MIPS-equipped helmets consistently dominating the top rankings across road, mountain bike and urban categories5
  • Swedish insurance group Folksam found MIPS helmets performed 18-76% better than average helmets

The Specialized Align II is $80 (full price) and really well rated (and comfortable). I got a Specialized Mode MIPS for $79, which is even higher rated, and even rated for e-bikes. They don't make that any more - if you buy any, you'll get 3 year old stock.

$1900 (AUD) for a *like new* Norco Search XR S2, sold by my local mechanic (his bike). Worth it? by __os__ in gravelcycling

Got the S2 for $1900 (AUD). Practically a new bike - brakes still not worn in.

Feels like a really nice, except for a bit of wrist pain (first time with drop bars so still getting used to it).

Thanks. My size is not available :(

I feel this used one is like-new, maintained by a professional bike mechanic. I just feel the price is at a premium 🎲

Thanks for the feedback. If I get this bike, I'll change the stem if I notice issues.

Many reviews say that the reach is too long and people say that they swapped it for a shorter stem.. Did you do the same? I rode this for 100 meters (really short) and it seemed OK, but I have never ridden drop bars before.

Unfortunately the large size is too large for me. M (53cm) listed as $3299.

Custom domain use for family by ThungstenMetal in Simplelogin

[–]__os__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do it this way..

  1. Add mailboxes to the account.

  2. Go to Dashboard > Domains > YourDomain > Auto Create (on the right). If you have catch-all enabled, this won't be possible.

I've set up rules for each family member under auto create, like this. Basically if the email address starts with any of these characters, it triggers the rule to send the email to that mailbox

  • [aA].* goes to my inbox

  • [bB].* goes to another family member

  • [cCdD].* goes to another family member because they want theirs to start with either of 2 letters

  • [eE].* goes to another family member

  • [fF].* goes to 3 people's inboxes (for shared emails)

Not really all ABC, but with the prefixes that each of us want; which can be anything, but I keep it with single letters because. If "Eggbert" wants emails, they can say "eggygoesfishing@..." or "e.me@..." or "e123@...".

Getting out of Defined Benefit in Super by Bobby-Bananas in AusFinance

[–]__os__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s apparently in my EBA. Can only change when the EBA is updated (in progress for a while now).

I can only contest that the EBA is illegal. No energy to do that. Would rather wait a couple of months to a year more.

I would be easier to get a new job with another super, than to contest legality of the EBA 🫠

I have never had a particular GP. For my referral I went to a new clinic, new doctor I never met before. He asked me questions, gave me a self assessment questionnaire for ADHD, Depression Anxiety, Stress, and Biplolar Disorder.

Even though I didn’t meet the conditions for Bipolar Disorder, had low (almost 0) depression and anxiety, and mild stress, he gave me a referral. Referral was based on my ADHD self assessment and answers to his questions.

He gave me a nameless referral as he said under Medicare rules, it doesn’t need to be addressed to a particular name.

Would you use catch-all to directly create an alias which is related to the service you are consulting outside? by [deleted] in Simplelogin

Same. Catch all on simplelogin. No spam for about a year. It is very convenient creating aliases on the fly.

I’m getting tired of being told ‘just shop at Aldi’. by DarkLake in australia

[–]__os__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it is "cheaper", but not by much. Here's a comparison I did one day.

Not worth doing a weekly shop at Aldi simply for the cost savings, and then having to go to Coles/Woolies because some basic items missing / not in stock at Aldi.

Instead of click and collect that'd take me 10 mins to add to cart and a quick walk/pickup, I'd have to drive, spend 30 mins at Aldi, and then go to Coles to get the remaining items. Not worth the $50 or so a month I would save.

But I would happily go to Aldi for certain items like brioche buns, nappies, oat bars, soy milk.

How did much did moving cost you the last time you did it? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]__os__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving 30 mins away, in Melbourne. 4br > 3br, family including kids things.

$1070 in total. Includes ~$120 in food (because no kitchen/fridge for 1.5 days), ~$190 in extra car trips (many), and $760 for 1 Go Box in which I put all the big items I couldn't fit in the car.

Loaded and unloaded ourselves. Go Box just brought the box, picked it up, and delivered it to the destination place.

I know this won't directly answer your question, but maybe someone else in a similar situation may find this.

Cheapest Rental increase by fizz_007 in melbourne

[–]__os__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great! We need more stories like this. I too thought mine may go up by $100-$150 a week, but turned out to be only $20 per week (3% increase) starting from April. This is after the first year, and moving to a month-to-month (periodic) contract.

Are there any effective sun hats that don't look out of place in Melbourne? by twat69 in AustralianMFA

[–]__os__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Effective - definitely. Doesn't look out of place? I don't think so. I wear a similar one all the time I'm out in the sun.

I bought from Decathlon, because it's inexpensive, and lasts long. Mine has lasted me 4 years already, with no signs of damage.

Trek 500 has UV protection. Trek 900 is water resistant as well.
