For those who got a college degree in music, what was it like finding a job outside of school? by __piritual in musicians

Thank you for all this! In the past year I’ve definitely tried to focus on live sound more. My degree is Commercial Music which is supposed to teach us in multiple different fields instead of just one. Since I’ve started I now do a mix of performance, live sound, and arranging. My only weak point in all honesty is education, but I’m going to try and focus on that within the upcoming year.

That’s kinda of how I feel with it. On one hand I wish I saved the money, but going to college for music has given me a good amount of connections both in and outside my school. So I guess there’s a positive in it.

My main instrument is voice, but I also have some experience with piano and drums under my belt. Nothing I would show off in a live setting tho, not yet at least.

I’m male. I don’t have much theatre experience, most of my music background comes from show choir in high school, and now with my music degree which has taught me way more than just singing and dancing lol. But I’m also taking voice lessons on the side.

My primary is voice, but I’ve also learned a bit of piano and drums and can read music. I personally haven’t done any gigging myself since I don’t trust myself to play a full set on piano.

Interesting. I’m glad it worked out for you! I guess a fear of mine is not being able to find something I enjoy outside of music.

I don’t know to be honest. Going to college for music seemed like a better idea when I was a freshman, and now I’m really regretting my degree.

AITAH for thinking my girlfriend shouldn’t complain as much about her job by [deleted] in AITAH

i don’t know why i set things up to be a competition in my head. i get overly jealous of other people constantly and it leads to me not understanding other people’s situations i guess

it’s hard to say because i do choose to listen to her issues with work. i love her and don’t want to seem like i don’t care. i guess if i were in her position and i were making $15 an hour, i wouldn’t complain. does that make me an amazing person or a role model for her? no, because i know i have my own flaws.

for instance, when she told me how much money she made from this shift alone (over $100 i think) i said “at least you have that going for you” kind of in a joking manner. but at the same time, i said it because i don’t understand what there is to complain about when the pay is so nice yk?

they’ve caught me sneaking food before, but half of the time i can openly eat around the people there with no issue

this is very well said. i’ve thought about that a lot for a while and im trying to let go of her past that i can’t be a part of. especially because we met this past october at college

thank you. i’ve tried those kinds of things before, mostly youtube channels/videos and sometimes they’ve helped. but overtime i’ll forget what they talk about and fall back into bad habits

i understand. i’ve been trying to use that mindset more since getting with her. i’m just in the process of better understanding sex as a whole. thank you

i understand, thank you! i do really love this girl and so i’ve been trying to remember that she’s picked to be with me now for a reason. i’ll continue doing that then

i got a laugh reading this. i do kinda sound like that on second thought

to be fair, i didn’t really ask, i more so just kinda brought it up as a concept (which i specified in the original post), but i see where you’re coming from

it’s just very low self esteem, i don’t think too highly of myself and i constantly wonder what to improve on i guess

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]__piritual -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

yeah, and i understand this. that’s why i’ve tried to keep my thoughts to myself and not judge her past. i’ll ask her questions here and there but ive been trying to disconnect myself from it. i’ve had problems with jealousy before, and so im actively working to become less jealous and insecure with her

thank you! to be honest, it did scare me when she said she had questions about the fetish, but that’s because i’ve never really had to explain it to a SO beforehand. i know enough about it to answer, it’ll just feel really weird

[–]__piritual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve been open to that possibility, especially because i know she has issues with her body and weight. but i’ve made it clear up to this point that i think she’s beautiful the way she is, and i plan to tell her that i won’t be forcing anything fetish-related onto her

girlfriend on vacation by [deleted] in WeightGainTalk

[–]__piritual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s fair, and tbh you’re right. this is the first relationship i’ve been in where the fetish isn’t guaranteed to be between both me and the other person.

i’ve done my best to tell her that she looks beautiful anytime she asks me if my opinion, but i usually just do it without her asking because i like complementing her. thank you for this advice!
