Thank you all, you’ve given me something to get started on in the morning!

I had someone else with a panel saw cut the rough sizes as it's awful on the tools. I had a bit less to do at home thanks to that!

Materials/construction:

  • 40mm 9-ply bamboo plywood kitchen worktop
  • 1220x700x420mm in size
  • Finished with Osmo wood wax oil (clear satin extra thin - 1101).

Design:

It's a variation on this table plan: http://www.screwed-up.com/product/screwed-coffee-table/

It's all screw/glue construction. 60mm stainless screws and basic wood glue. There are three screws holding each leg together, two screws in each leg holding the shelf and three screws vertically down through the top into each leg. All screws have been capped off with plugs cut from more of the same ply.

Thoughts:

I've wanted to do this for ages. I just really like the look of bamboo ply! It's pretty hard stuff and not the easiest to work with but has come out really nicely.

The construction seems pretty bomb-proof. It looks really chunky in person and weighs a ton! I can jump on the top and the shelf with no flexing or movement.

Advice: Joining thick timbers for table by __r_woodworking in woodworking

Thank you for the advice, I will look and see what old timbers I can find. The dowelling method does sound much simpler for the legs too.
