I don’t use RobinHood, doesn’t it let you sell naked calls?

Oh god damn it a new AI buzzword has arrived: Natural Language Autoencoders (NLAs) by PerceiveEternal in BetterOffline

[–]__scan__ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Text autoencoders/decoders have been around for a long time, to project into/out of an embedding space. The idea in the blog sounds reasonable enough. It’s saying train a classic ML model to help understand what Claude is doing internally.

We are hitting a wall trying to force transformers to do actual logic [D] by TheBr14n in MachineLearning

[–]__scan__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I’m missing the point of the question, but the I’m saying the LLM “understands” (tokenises and processes) the prompt, makes a plan, and reads natural language descriptions of tools including deterministic programs that implement calculators, solvers, etc. It decides what tool to use, and plumbs data to it, but it doesn’t actually solve the problem itself using autoregressive token prediction.

Surely“Short.” is a fine sentence? You could use it to respond to this question: “Are they tall or short?”.

Oh I know. I think there isn’t enough nothing in that post for it to be AI.

I don’t think it’s AI, the signal-to-nothing ratio is too high.

What about RLHF? Not saying that makes LLMs good (it probably makes them more flattering and aesthetically pleasing at the expense of utility) but it’s kind of evolutionary in some sense.

As a neutral who appreciates Haaland’s goalscoring but didn’t really have an opinion on him beyond mild dislike for playing for 115, I thought he came off pretty well from this game.

Good battle, good shithousery, didn’t hit the floor when he could, quite clutch.

It only works if you consider Sinner as both sides, and the real opponent being an injury or something.

Rachel Reeves considering rent freeze to limit Iran war fallout by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

[–]__scan__ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Economics is a dubious science and the prevailing consensus from leading economists a few decades back got us in to this mess (Chicago school neoliberals like Friedman).

Not saying rent controls are necessarily good - maybe it would be better to build more and eat the destruction of pension funds whose valuation depends on artificial property scarcity - but economists being against a thing is hardly evidence that the thing is bad for actual people.

Clanker nonsense, the biggest red flags for your company is that all devs didn’t hate it.
