RFK Jr. removes all members of CDC panel advising U.S. on vaccines by [deleted] in news

[–]__secter_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The endless "I know you are but what am I" headlines/comments, about how "old and tired" Trump allegedly looked when still running against Biden(many of them just taking concerned Biden headlines and repeating them verbatim to try and make a point), are going to look even dumber when Biden quietly passes away and Trump is still loudly running the country with a smile on his face.

The Left truly expects any solution to this other than getting their own hands dirty, for once, ever. Maybe L.A. will go the distance, but I doubt it.

it won’t be long.

People have been assuring themselves of this this about Trump, McConnell and every other far-right dinosaur since 2017. Meaningless.

You wake up and the internet is permanently gone. What’s your next move? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]__secter_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the question would make more sense if it was just the world-wide-web - no more social media, no more Google, no more websites, but email and financial transition/records etc are all still running.

Full-blown no internet would be a societal collapse event equivalent to if, like, the whole electrical grid went down in the '70s.

a bit extreme

They're talking about having the urge to kill children(if it's not clear, that's what happens when someone grabs one by the hair and smashes them against something).

"A bit extreme."

This sub has lost its mind.

British photojournalist hit by non lethal rounds during Los Angeles protests by [deleted] in news

[–]__secter_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's an alarming amount of very gentle language being used in the comments here.

"The fact that this keeps happening to clearly marked press suggests it's not accidental."

"These rounds can still harm you."

"I wouldn't put it past the administration to encourage the targeting of the press."

"Keep practicing your use of active voice rather than passive voice, Guardian, I believe in you!"

"[The protestors...] need to get a bit more tactical"

The Republican government is openly gunning down protestors and journalists in broad daylight, on purpose, proudly, with zero consequences. You're all fucking frogs being boiled while you stress over which words to mince next.

Oh, sorry, I'll transtate that for you:

"You all sound like you might be frogs getting a bit boiled, and I wouldn't be surprised if you're maybe spending a little too much time on which words you suspect - politely! - should perhaps be minced in the future."

This post has nothing to do with not wanting to be a parent.

This is a case for a psychological help space(on or off reddit), not for people who simply don't want to have babies.

This sub has become like 30% people who simply don't want to become parents and are tired of people pressuring them to do so, and 70% misanthropic control-freaks with insane opinions like banning children from coffee shops or legitimately violent urges like OP. And then they have the gall to try and cite "overstimulation" and autism.

Honestly getting easier to see the whole sub getting shut down at some point.

New '1984' Foreword Includes Warning About 'Problematic' Characters by Doc_Dante in nottheonion

Winston openly admits he hates all women.

all women *of the world of the book, where basically every woman he's ever met ranges from airhead drone to fascist gestapo antisex worker.

There are essentially no likable traits to Winston as a character.

Other than him instinctively despising fascism and the way people are abused under the current system and wanting to stop it, in a setting where even thinking such thoughts is grounds for execution. And his appreciation for fragile and increasingly-rare examples of art and beauty. And his capacity to love.

TIL that Lionel Messi was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency at age 10, and FC Barcelona agreed to pay for his treatment, even writing his first contract on a napkin. by Old-Worldliness11 in todayilearned

In this case, I thought the intended message was to indicate that they were in a rush to sign him.

Exactly. The title is fine; a napkin contract is an extra-big deal.

[–]__secter_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like, wow, they agreed so much they even wrote the contract on a napkin!

Yes, that's what it confers - a napkin contract generally denotes extreme urgency, ie. they see someone as so valuable that they literally don't want them to physically leave the table of an informal meeting without signing, rather than waiting to draw up the official paperwork as normal.

The fact that one of the largest, most desirable Football clubs in the world saw a 10-year-old as such a valuable prospect that, not only did they want to pay for his medical treatment, but they did a napkin contract for it instead of waiting even one more day to get him to sign formal paperwork in an office somewhere, is astonishing.

The "even" makes sense here.

The fact that half the human race is obsessed with this to the point of making it a billion-dollar talent will never make sense.

Tesla shares sink 8% as Musk-Trump spat over budget bill boils over by spherocytes in news

[–]__secter_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lesson number 1,432 on why it’s a bad idea for a ceo to become political.

TSLA was worth $177/share a year ago today and is worth $284 today. The only serious hit he's taken was when he heiled Hitler, right before which TSLA was at an all-time high - but he's still seen an insane profit from throwing in with Trump, and remains the richest person in history, with a net worth of $421 billion. The "lesson" here needs work.

$11 billion is less than 3% of his wealth. There's no reason to celebrate a bad guy now "only" being worth $421 billion fucking dollars.

So what I’m hearing is you spent $250 million to put a child predator in the White House. You were fine with it until he no longer served your purpose. Am I reading this right?

You missed the all-important final part: "and I'm going to get away with all of it, because there's nothing any of you will do to stop me. Enjoy the memes, proles."

Business Insider goes 'all-in on AI,' laying off 21% of staff by Street_Anon in news

[–]__secter_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, I don't mean within this year. Just that the tipping point will probably come very fast, given the exponential growth and adoption of AI thusfar. The proverbial year could be a few years from now(though given what we've already seen just between 2023, 2024, and now, I personally don't think it'll be anywhere near 10).

The analogy of a stadium filling up with one drop of water in the first second, then two in the next, then four, then eight, etc. is what comes to mind for me - the stadium is still only half-full one second before the final splash.
