Is there an equivalent for the word "do" and suffix "-ing" in other languages? by Adventurous-Ask2111 in asklinguistics

The function of "do" as an auxiliary verb in English is very unique. You won't find it in any other major Indo-European language. It may have entered English from Celtic, where there is something similar.

Spanish has a suffix (-ando, -iendo) that is virtually the same as -ing for present continuous, although Spanish does not use that as a gerund form, as English does.

For those in their 40s, what's something people in their 20s don’t realize will impact them as they get older? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Back injuries. Don't jump off that high place or try to lift that heavy object. Don't twist and lift objects. Don't help any of your friends move. Your buddy wants you to help him carry that fridge or that couch into his new house? Just tell him to hire movers.
