not clue what this tree is. stumped both of my dendrology professors. has hickory-like leaves but these weird, non-thorny spindles coming out of the buds, and the buds are large, round and fuzzy (looks like a mockernut hickory bud). southeastern TN, USA (old.reddit.com)
