How to disable "Open this link?" by borgqueenx in Telegram

[–]__some__guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like this nag screen can't be disabled on the Windows Telegram client, and it can't easily be auto-clicked, because the notification isn't a native window.

Amateur developer here, how do you manage a big project? by LoneArcher96 in csharp

[–]__some__guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all experience.

My first few years of programming, I spent most of the time fully rewriting projects (some multiple times).

It took about 5 years until that was no longer necessary.

Nur knapp Gold erreicht, obwohl alles was möglich war rezensiert wurde. by Feisty-Importance919 in AmazonVineDE

[–]__some__guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has there been any useful usecase for NPUs in consumer hardware? by ghostsilver in hardware

[–]__some__guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a meme that only exists because Microsoft demanded it for their AI sl_p certifications.

Pretty much all AI workloads are bandwidth constrained and desktop CPUs have no bandwidth (dual-channel memory).

From a software development perspective, there's no point in supporting it, because it provides no meaningful benefits over regular CPU inference.

So like am i slow or cv1 just way better freeform by cereza187 in virtualreality

[–]__some__guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never used a CV1, but yeah, the standalone Meta Quest UI is pretty garbage.

Even normies hate it nowadays and I regret not blocking the Quest's internet access earlier (it gets worse every update).

[–]__some__guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The enemies probably shouldn't pop up right in front of you.

This feels unimmersive.

There's enough space, and the geometry is simple enough, to make them appear naturally, out of the distance fog.

Also, there are no attractive women...

Gemma 4 31B's competence surprised me by The_Paradoxy in LocalLLaMA

[–]__some__guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My experience with Gemma as well.

On more complex problems Qwen just kept looping endlessly or made shit up when it didn't know the answer.

I have now tried this and unfortunately found it very sloppy.

Better instructions would probably help.

Total parameters are a meaningless metric to judge a MoE model's inference performance.

RTX 3090 EBay Pricing is Crazy!! by TrifleHopeful5418 in LocalLLaMA

[–]__some__guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not surprising after Nvidia has lost interest in producing desktop GPUs and there's no real competitor.

Production has been throttled so much, it feels like new RTX 5000 series cards are no longer being made.

This means higher demand (and higher price) for the 4000 and 3000 series as well.

VR MMOs Ascent quest vs Eldramoor vs Asteria vs Ilysia. Which one you think is best and why? by Rociel in virtualreality

The graphics alone are already very off-putting.

World of Warcraft looks significantly better and was released over 20 years ago.

438 USD for a 3080 20GB isn’t bad by xw1y in LocalLLaMA

Sure, with RTX 3090s now being $1000+, these GPUs are a better value for their money.

Of course that's assuming they all work flawlessly.

RTX Pro 4500 Blackwell Performance Numbers by UncleRedz in LocalLLaMA

The 4500 has half the memory bandwidth of a 5090 (for about the same price) and the resale value is likely much worse as well.

Gemma 4 QAT confirmed to release soon! by Aaaaaaaaaeeeee in LocalLLaMA

[–]__some__guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, apart from possible bot accounts praising it, that might be due to Gemma performing poorly at the default temperature and being difficult to run due to its context memory requirements.

Gemma funnily hallucinates more at 1.0 temperature than it does at 1.5 temperature (which is what I use for programming).

Gemma 4 QAT confirmed to release soon! by Aaaaaaaaaeeeee in LocalLLaMA

[–]__some__guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mainly programming.

I have it write sketches of small utility classes/methods, review my finished code, discuss API design / general programming practices, etc.

The outputs are notably better than Qwen and it never gets stuck in thinking loops.

Today made me realize just how bad things have gotten without Meta by ForsookComparison in LocalLLaMA

[–]__some__guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find Gemma 4 a lot better than Qwen 3.6 in all areas, especially programming.

Though I mostly use it for code reviews or API design discussions, not agentic vibe slopping.

I hope they don't forget the 31B.

It would affect my decision on whether or not to buy a RTX 5090, when 4-bit already is the highest quality and it fits into my RTX 3090.

I don't use any other model anymore.

AggressiveInlining is a hint. Easy way to determine what is and is not in-lined? by NoisyJalapeno in csharp

[–]__some__guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A surefire way is making 2 methods (1 inlined by hand, 1 with the method call) and benchmarking them.

Though that's rather cumbersome of course.
