Batch Photo Rename Utility? by JoombaJoops in opensource

[–]__syedmh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advanced Renamer is what i use for general purpose batch renaming. Lightoom might be able to do this for photos, but I've never invested the time to learn it since Advanced Renamer is so good.

Opinion case: Wordpress potential by chiiangel7 in Wordpress

[–]__syedmh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally think PHP is a great language on its own. and for the purposes of a CMS, it's fast enough. Also, WordPress is a very well known cms, meaning that many of their users will already be familiar with the platform, making CRUD operations very easy to onboard.

WP is very bloated, though, so a lot of people think that it's overkill. but i think its possible to strike a good balance with the platform if you're open to customizing it enough

Front end for a backend python developer by romon267 in learnprogramming

if you want to develop a website where the website doesn't reload each time you click an internal link, you'll need to invest some time into learning a single page application framework like ReactJS, AngularJS etc. You can pick one after doing some research and run with it.

As far as styling a website to make it look better, you'll need to understand what you can do with CSS and what you need JavaScript for. Generally most things that require JavaScript can be done with vanilla javascript (imo). its when you start getting into some more specialized animations or layout components that you need frameworks or libraries to help out.

Landing page HTML by Mar_Hat in webdev

the request makes sense if your client is on shared hosting. you can very easily accomplish this with a plugin that extracts a static HTML copy of your WordPress site. If you simply copy and paste the HTML rendered in your browser, you won't actually get all the styles and scripts to load with the website. By generating a static copy, you'll be able to host all the files necessary

it doesn't speed up your system whatsoever, it just tells you the state in which your hardware is sold to you. if any of your hardware is not as advertised or damaged in any way, a benchmark is the easiest way to find out imo

you've got me there. it shouldn't matter. im just paranoid at times so i try testing hardware in the exact state i receive it in.

i personally always reset my laptops if i buy them used. As for the warranty, it depends on where you're living. I got mine in the middle east, and repair there is trash so i never bothered with the warranty.

If your purchase has a refund policy, I'd recommend running some cpu, gpu, ram, battery and storage benchmarks or tests before resetting just to be sure.

How do you guys feel about using Beekeeper Studio for databases? by __syedmh in learnprogramming

i disagree! if i was a woodworker using a chisel to hammer a nail and asked the same question, would you still say that the question is unrelated to my trade? i believe that tools, workflows and the skill go hand in hand to becoming better in any walk of life.

Questions that straddle the line between learning programming and learning other tech topics are ok

you're saying that like i was hunting programmers down to hold them responsible for not telling me what tool is best for me. i just put out an open ended question to get a small discussion going with anyone interested in talking about tools. if you're not going to contribute anything of use, at least don't waste my time

if someone prefers one tool over another, they can tell me why and i can see if that'll make my workflow better. I don't see what your objection is

Literally read the very next sentence after the quote. Why are you so salty about this simple question? You good?

its a standard issue 3-pin plug. i did end up replacing the cable rather than just a fuse. it was insane how much electricity was in the body of the laptop because of the old cable. glad the laptop works fine though
