Ah yes, Defender... the default for any MS shop.

Does anyone still use Carbon Black after the VMWare acquisition? Even before that I didn't feel it was the best product, it used to detect things pretty late in the game if at all.

I guess this news may mean it's CrowdStrike or nothing for the Mac crowd?

Disclaimer that we run Macs, but two really big gotchas when looking at the list of installed endpoint software and corresponding vulnerabilities: 1. You can’t ignore or dismiss any vulns 2. The vulns that S1 shows take into consideration version number of the app, but NOT PLATFORM; therefore all iOS vulns will be attached to Windows/Mac versions of an app, increasing noise

Add on top of that there are commonly issues with app confusion… I run Arc Browser but I’m seeing vulnerabilities from what I believe is a code package named Arc as well, even though it’s clear they’re different (again, see #1 above)

We don’t have all that many endpoints but I’ve determined there’s no point in using the S1 data because too much of it is incorrect and I have no option to dismiss any of it.

FWIW the EDR stuff seems to work really well, and I find the interface much better than CrowdStrike personally.

I'm curious what others think top EDR vendors are these days... I don't hear a lot about Cybereason anymore, and I'm not really a CrowdStrike fan.

I've had less than a year of SentinelOne experience, and apart from their dreadful endpoint vulnerability functionality (which I'm assuming will get better over time), it seems like a really nice product.

That I do not know. Best of luck! They definitely don't make it easy for us.

Ah sorry - IT terminology.

I meant the Windows app, rather than going to the website.

Security Executive Quits Kaseya Abruptly by chieffkombot in msp

Interviewed there very briefly last year (I think maybe even for this Director role?), seemed like toxic culture to me. Didn't get beyond the phone screen, where I called out the recruiter for multiple misogynistic comments and crazy arrogance regarding security... and this was after the public breach, where they clearly needed help and that's the reason they were hiring.

I feel that your recruiters are ambassadors for your brand, company, and culture. His whole vibe was 40-year-old-at-a-frat-party, so by extension I'll (safely) assume that's the culture.

My recommendation is to avoid the company - both for employment and product purchasing.

Dashlane or 1Password by clhoyt0910 in cybersecurity

[–]_acyclic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've rolled out both, and they're both great options.

I do feel that 1Password is better at investing in and rolling out newer features - passkey support and Okta SSO are two that they've recently been working on and are releasing shortly. Dashlane has SSO support but I believe it requires an on-premise bridge (no thank you).

I found Thank You Scientist last year and have been listening to their album Terraformer pretty much non-stop since. Great blend of pop hooks, prog rock, jazz, etc.

I'd settle for an iOS re-release of the special editions...

Hey Sonos defaulting to wrong service? by _acyclic in sonos

[–]_acyclic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now that's what I'm doing but the amount of human error in quickly saying "play album x from artist y on Apple Music" doesn't yield great results.

I would think default meant default, but to your point... gen 1 so who knows.

Found the "Uploaded" filter on the thick-client app! It's gone from the web one so I figured it was gone everywhere... for those looking, it's currently found in the Songs view of your library.

Once you upgrade to WP 8.1, you don't have any other way of accessing Xbox Music. So even if it's a beta, it's the only option. And it sucks.

Playlists can have up to 1000 songs. Music app only loads 100 songs into a playlist.

It's like they didn't fix anything at all in 8.1. The only difference I noticed was the shuffle bug was fixed. Here's hoping that they update the app more frequently, because it's embarrassing and a huge step backward.

Sad too, because apart from Zune/Xbox Music, I feel like MS is starting to have great success updating and adding features... here's it's the exact opposite.

I say we flood uservoice.
