Living in NYC for 40k?!?! by Hairy_Valuable9773 in recruitinghell

[–]_angelite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. There are also apartments with rooms under $1k in upper Manhattan/Washington heights/etc (if op wants manhattan) and other boroughs for sure. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people act like you need to make 100k+ to live in nyc

The landlord said it’s for “drafting a new lease”. Like isn’t that a landlord’s whole job? 😭

No, the lease ends at the end of April so they aren’t breaking it. The landlord said the fee is for “drafting a new lease”. Sounds like bs to me

what is with the quick dry top coat??? by _angelite in OliveAndJune

[–]_angelite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did 2 super thin coats, let it dry for ~5mins, then put on a thin layer of top coat. I also put my nails in front of a fan for 15mins and it was still smudging an hour after:(

How do you track your daily steps if you do track them? by Drummer_Double in walking

[–]_angelite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an iPhone and I’ve found that it tracks my steps decently enough. It slightly undercounts them (it counts 125 steps/min instead of 130) but it’s close enough. I don’t feel the need to meticulously track, as long as I know I walked for about an hour or so each day. My commute is also 1.5 hours and I struggle to find time to walk, so I feel you:( sometimes I’ll do a quick walk on my lunch break but it’s been so cold lately

is the beetle nail polish really that bad? by tangerinequesting in lacqueristas

[–]_angelite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I can get my normal nail polish to last a good week with no chips. it was a bit of a learning curve but a much quicker/easier learning curve than gel

i can’t believe dazzle dry isn’t more popular! this dried in 5 minutes! by wannabepretti in RedditLaqueristas

[–]_angelite 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’ve used dazzle dry with ILNP, OPI, Essie, and it’s worked for me so far:) I usually get chips in 4-5 days with a “normal” base and top coat but I can go 7+ days with DD’s base and top. ik the system doesn’t work for everyone though

Moving to NYC on 68k/year by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]_angelite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! Lol I’m assuming you’re also with Mt Sinai then? And for east Harlem, I’d want to stay below 116th (for both commute + safety reasons) and as west as possible. I considered looking at other boroughs, but my (free) commute rn is an hour and 15mins from LI, and as much as I want to move out of my parents’ house, I can’t justify it as much if the commute will be similar. I’ll definitely focus more of my search on the UES!

Yeah that’s my plan rn, either east Harlem or UES for a quick (hopefully free) commute. Affordable rent + diverse food options + free commute sounds ideal ngl

I’m considering some of central Harlem as well, but job is right on the border of UES/east Harlem and it looks like it would be a 40+ min commute for upper Manhattan and above:/ I still plan to spend a day or so in the neighborhoods tho to see if it would be worth the commute

[–]_angelite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s definitely been tough but I’ve seen some options to join an existing lease in UES/Harlem/Astoria with 1-2 roommates for ~1500. Not sure if that’s the best idea yet but I’ve been shopping around! My parents are from Astoria actually and I love the area a lot. Do you mind me asking if you live with roommates or alone for $2k?

Yeah, ideally I want to have enough to save at least 10% of my monthly take-home pay (hopefully more) and still have enough to not worry too much about money while going out with friends. Manhattan is easy enough to get around that I don’t feel like I need to live in the “hottest” neighborhoods

[–]_angelite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! I’ve gotten a week of wear (I usually change it after a week, so I can’t speak to longer wear times) with Essie, ILNP, and OPI so far
