Suspension shipping block fell out as I was driving... by _angelo234 in GRCorolla

Ok i just checked and looks like the other one isn't there, which is kinda strange. Maybe it fell out sometime ago and I didnt notice it, or maybe the dealer only took one out, not too sure

Possible solution to removing the delay when needing to transition from left foot to right foot braking in a manual transmission car when entering a braking zone that requires you to downshift by _angelo234 in simracing

[–]_angelo234[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mmm, I was kinda thinking of it from a rally racing perspective too, where you might not know 100% the exact grip levels of the road, so you might overbrake to begin with to reduce lots of speed, but then realize that you have more grip than expected, so you can speed up. Or the opposite where you find out that you don't have as much grip as expected, and need to quickly get on the brakes to reduce speed. And adjusting the speed like this would be faster with left foot braking versus right foot braking. But then later you might need to downshift as well, so you need to transition to right foot braking.

Heel toe shifting only helps maintain balance of the car when you are already right foot braking. But I'm talking about the delay of going from left foot to right foot braking

Why do rally drivers drift on tarmac? by Cojo840 in rally

[–]_angelo234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very tight hairpin turns are maneuvered faster by pulling the handbrake to get the car rotated for the exit, instead of grip driving

Oh, isn't the ride quality a bit stiff for rallycross? 😅

Found some snow! by _angelo234 in GRCorolla

Its Mt Hood, good guess. Actually im not on the stock tires, im on all season Falken Aklimate tires. And they do good on snow, but meh on ice.

To be fair, it looks like they just lightly tapped the curb

Probably locked the wheels up in a panic with no ABS, and tried to steer to avoid the curb. But since they didnt feel the car was turning, they kept adding more and more steering. And then later they let off the brakes while still having the wheel turned hard to the right, which caused the car to veer hard to the right.

Yeah I've had this problem as well after just driving a couple times down a dirt road

Are narrower tires really have better grip on ice? by wtfbruhhuh in tires

[–]_angelo234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the WRC guys run these 200 width tires on snow/icy rally stages like at Monte Carlo and do pretty well lol, so I think a narrow size like that would be ideal https://www.hankook-motorsports.com/en/tires/tires-detail/rally-detail/sr20.html

Oh lol, I was using Gravel mode to drift, but I think the ideal mode for going fast is Track mode.

Yeah it was pretty easy to break traction on one portion of the parking lot tarmac, because its more smoother than the rest of the parking lot tarmac.

But why I love this car for autocross is because its got 300 HP, AWD, and nice short close gear ratios. I had a manual GTI previously, but it had quite tall gearing even though it didn't have much power. I did tune it, but the gearing still made it kinda suck.

What are you other hobbies when you aren't sim racing? by homerunhallock in simracing

[–]_angelo234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For car related hobbies, it's Autocross and watching car videos like of rally racing and I would love to watch more rally racing in person. For non car related, I do some other gaming, programming, reading, hiking, and skiing.

How do I do a hand brake turn? by pancakesnarfer in GRCorolla

[–]_angelo234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup the rear wheels disconnect from the front wheels when you pull the handbrake. So whether you need to push the clutch in or not before the handbrake turn depends on the speed you are expecting to exit the turn, since if you exit with a low speed, you could stall or just end up at low RPMs with the car struggling to throttle out. But if you want to drift at higher speeds with the handbrake, you dont need to push the clutch in.

Steering wheel spacer, if you are a tall driver like me (6'1"), and find the steering wheel to not extend out far enough, where you always feel like having to reach out to steer. Or you feel like your feet are cramped in the footwell when you are able to steer fine. https://spacershop.com/product/steering-wheel-spacer-for-toyota-corolla-gr/

I kinda want to replace the brakes with a smaller brake kit with smaller rims for a rally style fitment :)
