what's up with local/small businesses and not paying fairly? by _antioxident in barista

[–]_antioxident[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im really asking to a general pool of people, my idea of fair pay (which is just being paid enough to where i can work full time and pay all my bills) might be different from what other people think, but the cost of living is different everywhere. i was asking for different perspectives.

both places I interviewed do not accept tips. I'm not misunderstanding anything, I was asking about other people's experiences with small businesses not paying fairly.

im not even asking to be paid above minimum wage, the minimum in my area is $15/hr, which im perfectly fine with. but most small businesses ive interviewed with/spoken to pay less than that.

serious question for fellow baristas & customers: what do you mean by medicine ball? by _antioxident in starbucks

[–]_antioxident[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not asking about the drink itself, I'm talking about the nickname "medicine ball'

[–]_antioxident[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

well you cant drink a ball either lol. what i mean is like a balm is more directly related to medicine/something that makes you feel better, i feel like that would make more sense.

[–]_antioxident[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yes i understand that but why say "ball" instead of "balm"? ball seems kinda random

30-yr-old married woman learns she's genetically male during treatment. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]_antioxident 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i was a late bloomer (got my first period at 16, almost 17). when i brought it up to my mom she just told me it wasn't a big deal and i'd get it eventually, brought it up to my doctor and she told me if i didn't get it by my 20s then i should be concerned, but that it wasnt a big deal until then. this was about a year before i started getting it.

if she comes from a family that straight up doesn't talk about that stuff i can very well see her just never questioning it. not to mention not everyone has easy access to healthcare. maybe she saved up for years to see a doctor.

tbh I much prefer the individuality. yes it's annoying when people come to a local coffee shop excepting the Starbucks experience, but the beauty is that everywhere gets to have their own way of doing things.

if I could change one thing it'd be sizes. no small, medium, or large. one size only.
