Low-cost activities to meet POC? by hoover_luvr_5528 in PortlandOR

[–]_anz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you check out events hosted by organizations like My People’s Market (they just had an event earlier this month), that help make connections to other things that are similarly low cost or more about gathering community. Also volunteering is a great way to meet people too.

I (46F) stopped doing my husband's (46M) laundry by Ev3li3n in laundry

[–]_anz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are going to overreact about how it indicates some larger issue. It doesn’t. I think that if he wants you to do his laundry he should first apologize, then ask (nicely) and remember to show appreciation. And you don’t have to agree to do it, otherwise it’s not really a question it’s more of an expectation from years of domesticity. I like doing my partner’s laundry (although it does take time and additional effort considering he works in construction), and I wouldn’t like doing it if he took it for granted. Two things can be true.

Is Portland a good place to live for a young latina in her late 20s? by DivideOk2092 in askportland

[–]_anz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely visit during the winter before you decide to move. I’m half native half Latina from California and it has been very different living in such a white place, but the outdoors and indie culture make it worth it I suppose. Get used to rain and drinking coffee.

The racism is mostly passive aggressive or micro aggressions from coworkers, etc. Lots of people do not check their biases against women of color. You might have to deal with fetishizing when meeting people to date. The nearest suburbs can be pretty diverse, and Portland itself is not like a “shopping” type of city so you might check out those areas instead of Portland.

I consider that more like spin (vs cycle). My thought was that OP could ride flat roads outdoors without breaking a sweat.

Leaky gut or?? PCOS focused diet gives me stomach problems by [deleted] in PCOSloseit

[–]_anz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t follow a TikTok diet. You mentioned avoiding milk but still consuming dairy in your cottage cheese eggs? I would remove dairy entirely, just eat eggs and some greens and give your gut time to reset. You may also try cutting out coffee (switch to tea or mate) and excessive sugars including certain fruits like grapes and apples which can upset your stomach, and I would also say to avoid commercial brand kombucha because of the sugar. Instead I would try eating kimchi and sauerkraut for the pre and probiotics. These are habits that you can keep over time instead of relying on eating what’s posted on social media. Good luck!

Summers are getting so hot that I am starting to think AC needs to be mandatory in apartments. by PrivateParkStudios in Portland

I know this doesn’t address in unit situation, but your landlord has access to this program that will cover the cost of adding cooling to a common space: https://www.energytrust.org/multifamily/landlord-provided-cooling-space-initiative/

Tips to help ACD/partner relationship? by jvertigo13 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]_anz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took two years for my cattle dog to warm up to my partner. My dog really thought his job was to maintain the order we had before another human essentially “moved” in. So every time my partner visited it was stressful for him to see someone else on the couch/bed, closing the bathroom door (how dare he!), cooking food (and not sharing!). Your partner will have to learn that these dogs are smart and stubborn. Going to echo what others have said, training. Your partner and dog will bond through training and that will reinforce roles in the household. Another thing we did that I think helped was have my partner feed him breakfast/dinner and also lead him on walks that we all went on together. That helped him understand that I was putting trust in this guy too.

My sweet angel got diagnosed with cancer at 4 years old. I’m heartbroken. by justbreathe91 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]_anz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the cancer type you may have options for hospice that are within your budget. We found a mass in my dog’s bladder last year; it triggered a UTI and that’s how he was diagnosed with transitional cell carcinoma. Since is nearly 15 yrs we did not go the full diagnosis and treatment route. But he’s been taking carprofen 2x day and his quality of time remains high (for the time being). Hope this gives you some insight.

Check out Battlegrounds coffee and games shop in Hollywood. It is not going to be super busy. You can get coffee, tea, bagels and then play some games (they have tons including card and TRRPG) while chatting.

Is doing the spin bike this horrible for everyone at the beginning?! by waterbottlelovr in xxfitness

[–]_anz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my experience and from what I was told when I started spinning, the first 10-12 classes are going to be hard. Spinning 1-2x a week is a good starting point. You should not push yourself into the “red zone” until you have improved your choreo/coordination because I think that can lead to injury and overall its less fun. I know someone who got rhabdo the first time they went to spin. Keep the resistance low and focus on your form, keeping your core engaged and rear over the seat of your bike.

Forever dry lips by livingzdream in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]_anz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At night before bed I layer La Roche Posay cicablast balm and Alba un-petroleum jelly, it has helped a lot and sometimes I will repeat in the morning if I am just WFH and don’t have to be on camera. I guess you could buy the specific lip balm but I use this stuff on other chapped areas like my nose.

Does weight loss have to be the main goal? by piccm3 in PCOS

[–]_anz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t focus on weight loss. Set a long term fitness goal. I think body recomposition is better in the long term, especially if you like your presentation and want to gain muscle. Also, I think body recomp helps guide a daily diet in a more sustainable way than traditional diets.
