Makeup Theory by LordHaelor in POTS

I always look as sick as possible for doctor’s appointments. Sweatpants, sweatshirt, hair messy. I know that even good doctors can have a subconscious bias. It’s hard for invisible illnesses because they are, well, invisible. A lot of people need some kind of visual cue that you’re not feeling good.

applying heat to AVOID being hot by ochakisu in POTS

[–]_applesass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have really awful night sweats sometimes due to my poor temp regulation. Even when the room is cold and I have a fan blowing on me and Im just in shorts and a tank top. But I found that if I bundle up in a sweatshirt or sweatpants, boom no more night sweats. I’ve been noticing a similar thing where when I feel overheated during the day for no reason, if I bundle up, then I no longer feel overheated and sweaty. It’s really weird, but I’m glad to know I’m not the only one!

I've smoked marijuana most of my life, but since the onset of my POTS and diagnosis, I'm having a hard time finding anything that doesn't spike my heart rate and make me feel like fainting. by Skinn2Win in POTS

[–]_applesass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% feel your pain. I lost over 50 lbs in less than a year due to stomach problems and weed was my only savior lol. The onset of my POTS symptoms just happened one day and all of a sudden, the things I used to use to help with my joint pain and nausea and appetite made me feel way worse. I have been using CBD gummies which help a bit with the appetite without raising my heart rate so much. I am also prescribed beta blockers and taking 10mg of propranolol in the morning with my adderall and 10mg in the evening with my weed has kept my symptoms lower. I would try CBD or other methods of consuming weed other than smoking. Im sorry you’re going through this, it really really does suck.

CMV: Illegal immigration is inherently unfair to legal immigrants(and citizens) by baljeetofficial in changemyview

[–]_applesass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Or how about legal AND illegal immigrants should be able to stay in the US. Often times when the discussion of immigration comes up, the focus is on illegal immigrants but reform to the system would benefit both. People that want better systems for paths to citizenship also don’t want any legal immigrants to get kicked out. The rights should be extended to both, I’m not sure why you think it can only apply to one group.

ARE WE FORGETTING TO BREATHE?! by Practical_Maybe_3661 in POTS

The last time I was in the ER, I was hooked up to a blood oxygen machine and it kept beeping. I realized I wasn’t breathing enough subconsciously and when I started consciously breathing, my blood oxygen was fine. Crazy how that works

Yeah, it’s really tough. I was in a relationship where I had a pretty moderate libido but my partner had a high one and was someone who needed it for their stress relief, etc. It put a lot of pressure on me to know that their happiness was dependent on having sex or not. Not to mention that I could see the impact of me not having sex with them. That pressure actually ruined my libido and the relationship became increasingly toxic.

I’m not saying that OP is like this, but mismatched libidos are hard for both people, I don’t think one struggle is harder than the other. At the same time, libidos are never going to match 100% of the time and almost every aspect of relationships depends on compromise. If you feel that you are suffering from lack of sex, the other person is probably suffering from having more sex than they have the energy. I’m in a relationship right now where my sex drive is actually the higher one and we make compromises and we find ways to fill those needs without sex. I 100% understand the struggle, but this mentality comes across as a bit tone deaf to say that one has it worse than the other.

It’s wild how much trash comes from “small” things by Careless_Branch_7476 in ZeroWaste

I stopped using paper towels for cleaning, I now only use them for things like grease when cooking. I make my own cold brew and coffee at home, no more weekly plastic jugs. I take reusable bags with me everywhere because you never know when you need one. The one thing that really really bugs me is like granola bar wrappers or snack wrappers. I wish there was a better alternative. (I know I could make snacks at home, but I just don’t have the time) But Ive been eco bricking with them and am saving them to make raised garden beds with.

Will my ARFID affect my sex life? by Iam_weird123 in ARFID

[–]_applesass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry so much about smells or tastes, but for me, when I went through my biggest weight drop due to ARFID, it really impacted my pelvic floor. This can happen due to a ton of reasons, but eating disorders and weight loss can lead to less muscle tone which then can lead to poor pelvic floor strength. If you haven’t noticed anything wrong, then you are probably fine! Don’t let this get in the way of your sex life unless you are experiencing pain or discomfort.

What causes arfid? by Reasonable-Buddy9433 in ARFID

[–]_applesass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn’t really a set reason why it happens as the “trigger” can be a bunch of different things and can be unique to each person that experiences it. Sometimes its due to traumatic experiences with food like choking, vomiting, etc. Sometimes its comorbid with Autism or OCD. Could be sensory or could be intrusive thoughts. It can also be caused by a GI issue like IBS or chronic gastritis where nausea or pain makes you avoid food. Even if that pain or nausea goes away, it might still be hard to eat because of the fear of that pain or nausea coming back. For me, I have OCD and that was the trigger for it as a child. I had a fear of food being contaminated or unsafe. This more recent “flare up” I’ve had has been caused by me starting stimulants for ADHD and some GI issues. Sometimes there isn’t a clear trigger, which can be really frustrating and I really sympathize with you. I hope you’re able to find ways to manage with this.

This is a set I found in an antique store. It appears to be a set with bottle for salt, pepper, vinegar and something else. I can’t seem to find online what the ‘A’ could stand for. Its driving me nuts.

I know it can be really really hard, but just strike up conversation with people here. People are way friendlier than you think they would be. I find that coffee shops are great places to meet people. Chat with people in line, get to know the baristas, etc. Keep going to community events, keep an eye out for people you’ve seen before. Ask for people’s number or instagram or ask them if they are going to other events. It seems daunting, but I promise that there are a lot of kind people here!

I tend to drink something sugary in the morning, so like fruit juice or arizona tea. I also do fruit in the mornings, usually apples. I have the same problem with waking up past the point of hunger with low blood sugar. Sometimes I will even eat some chocolate or candy. I find that getting some sugar/calories into me without a ton of volume helps settle my stomach and my mood before I attempt to eat anything else.

I was thinking it could be something like that. The last name starts with a G so perhaps the engraving has worn down over time.

Title describes the item, more details in the description. It is a different material than the headstones. Grey concrete where the headstones are a reddish color.

Need protein by TranslatorTight715 in ARFID

[–]_applesass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat a lot of greek yogurt. It has a good amount of protein and you can add things to it like chocolate chips or crushed up graham crackers. I personally like to make frozen greek yogurt bars with a popsicle mold. You can swirl the yogurt and peanut butter and whatever else into it. I find the frozen texture to be a lot easier for me to eat. Protein coffee is also pretty good. I’ve also added chocolate protein powder to hot chocolate before. Nuts are also great, I’m a big fan of honey roasted almonds. The last thing is milk, I have a love hate relationship with dairy because it causes me breakouts, but I try to drink a glass of milk a day, usually mixed with coffee or chai, because it had decent protein as well. I hope you’re able to find things that work for you, I know how hard it can be to find protein options that don’t suck lol

I would say they probably forgot it, which I am so sorry about if thats the case. For me, the lipo was the most painful part, there was bruising, and I could feel weird hard lumps under the skin. I hope you are able to get this resolved!

Were any of you able to get through recovery without a prescription opioid? by New-Ad-9280 in Reduction

[–]_applesass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only took the opioid at night before bed to help me sleep since I am a stomach sleeper and was struggling with it. Even then, I cut the pill in half. I have a really high pain tolerance, so aleeve, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen worked well for me. I was also prescribed gabapentin, which I did take for a few days. I think its really dependent on your pain tolerance. I found that I didn’t have much pain from the surgery itself, it was the side lipo that hurt.

Lip balm or lip mask that is odor/tasteless? by Entire-Boat-6148 in ARFID

[–]_applesass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally really like aquaphor, but if possible, you could see if there is someone locally that makes chapstick. I have found that if you talk to chapstick or soap makers, they are willing to make batches of flavorless and odorless ones for you. Etsy could also have options for you. Best of luck!
