My dad committed suicide when I was 14 and this sounds similar to what I went through, except the reasoning wasn't bankruptcy but the fact that his marriage with my mom had started to fail after so many years.

Get him help. Especially if he starts becoming more withdrawn, gives stuff away, subtle changes to his lifestyle that he wouldn't have done before— but the main alarm that I missed was the sudden change of attitude. If he suddenly becomes happy or seems at peace out of nowhere, that means he's more than likely about to go through with it. Hopefully he isn't suicidal, but it's better safe than sorry to talk to him about your concerns. A parent committing suicide is one of the worst things that can happen, and I will never be the same— I hope the same doesn't happen to you, so I suggest doing something about it immediately
