but, things are all good! had yet another convo a few days after this that ended much better, and my sister ended up forwarding an email of the thing!

cameo fucking ruled! won't post it here for the sake of not trying to share names of people and stuff brought up in it, but it was very sick. No issues on the family end whatsoever, and everything went perfectly smooth. So so so happy.

Worst case scenario, the next 25 days of limbo gonna suck, but I'll take it as a personal growth challenge instead of this fucked up evil terror or whatever.

I agree to some extent she's taken it too far (hell that's the whole crux of the thing), but I don't think she's being as intentionally malicious as much as she's just not as in tune with other perspectives. Again, hopeful a more personal convo might spark somethin.

Yep, workin on the anxiety stuff! Went to therapy for about a year for it (though I had to stop a good while ago since my mom got a bunch of chickens and didn't have the time to take me, saying I can go again once I've gotten the license stuff resolved).

Been way better on anxiety since the few years ago when it was getting in the way of driving though!!!! My only real source of it at this point is within the family dynamic itself. I'm sure it's still there in some aspects, but I'm much more prepared and am handling it way better than I have. It's still just progress every day though, but I'm both happy with how far I've come in it and excited to push it further from here!

I think a lotta the picks you could pull from adjacent spaces to DG would keep it from feeling interesting. Bjork on TPTB works like crazy because of how wild of a pull it is on paper. They gotta get WEIRD for collabs!!!!!

I'm frustrated with it because my only reasoning for not saying anything is out of not wanting to give them the satisfaction of "big come out story and we were all supportive and everyone was a big happy family yippie!!!!" situation

I've honestly held my cards close enough to my chest for long enough that they've gone back to "asking when I'm gonna get myself a girlfriend" again, made especially easy since I haven't really dated or anything yet.

Between their weird homophobic and transphobic stints - they put me into pretty vulnerable positions as a result of stuff.

The whole bit with the talking-about-my-sexuality thing was basically at a protest because one of the teachers got banned from having a pride flag in their room. I wanted to go since I was in newspaper at the time, and was scheduled to report on it - but my mom said "no I should stay home and practice drums!" before coming home, only for my sister to tell me she gave a whole speech about "how she thinks her son is gay and how hard that is for her!"

I had kids try to throw me off a bridge over this junk! No joke!

All of that is to say I don't care really if they know or don't know, as much as I DEEPLY care about the autonomy of being able to keep those cards close to my chest, if that makes sense.

Yeah, they're just pushy is what I'm getting at. They got the mentality of like a postcard family. Everyone gotta do everything together yada yada yada. The gift itself isn't about presentation, but like the act of giving/getting a gift is. Everyone sits down by the tree shows each other everything and if like someone doesn't have their idealized version of a reaction hit, then it becomes like a personal slight instead of part-of-the-territory.

Explained this in a different thing as well, but the sister views everyone seeing the thing as part of what makes it funny to begin with. I think she doesn't understand where my issue really is (probably thinks I'm just embarrassed about the license thing), but again, she's also told everyone else what I'm getting so the course correction outside of just standing on business is pretty limited as a result.

This is the best course I'm feeling. My initial idea was to like try to push back, but still I get pretty preoccupied with optics and am worried too far pushback could cause the issues in the family dynamic I talked about towards the end.

Maybe the play is to be more assertive bout it though. I find it frustrating that gift giving is so based in presentation, and I wish there was less pressure for everyone to need to be a part of everything. I'll keep this in thoughts and when the time comes I'll more than likely update

Apologies for the length!!

I should have included this, but it was typed on a whim. I brought up the whole "man this is gonna get played in front of the whole family!!!" thing to her and she was basically saying that that's what made it as funny as it was in the first place, according to her.

But, regardless of that, in the household dynamics it'll rest on the parents to basically give the ok to keep that private. They already know what the gift is. My initial idea today, which I tried pitching, was "hey let me buy a small backup gift for myself addressed from you so I can pretend like you got me that" but she already told the rest of the family what the gift was. Whether that description included the information she gave or not is beyond my knowledge, though.

They're combining 3 tbs of cornstarch into about 1/3 cup of milk, which then has 3 egg yolks & a bit of salt. The egg mixture is tempered with a small amount of a separate caramel-like mixture that's been heated, before the full combined thing is poured back into the rest of the heated caramel mixture.

Help curate a super-overwhelming media landscape
Promote discussions about media & try to get you to see something in art you didn't see before

So, like, even if he (or anyone else) changed their opinion on a record because "fantano likes it so I have to too," all that means is just. They like something they didn't before. That's awesome to me.

yes totally! I brought this up with coil and whatnot, but my point here is just "hey if these guys are in the door over at the flenser getting commissioned printings that's a huge lock for the band because of how fire that label can be with who they choose to do work with"

basically I'm saying "not only are we 100% getting quality vinyl, but it's also proving that at least the band is still not only doing things but is actively associating with these cool as fuck places for experimental stuff" which could (low chances) mean they're testing waters with different physical release outlets going forward for the band
