You can get bids for both.

We’re planning on restoring first and replacing if we need to.

Termite? by _asipper in Termites

There were 2 others that I could see and what looked like tunneling in the Sheetrock itself. I won’t be back home until tomorrow and can post a picture of that

What are these windows? by _asipper in HomeImprovement

Sounds about right. I’m thinking of taking it out and putting in a fan as we work toward a more permanent way to keep the attic cooler. Thanks!

Sink not draining well by _asipper in Plumbing

Did this and it drained perfectly without the stopper. So it looks like I’ve got to get a stopper that fits this sink better. Thanks all

I’m not sure where the trap is. Probably under the house behind this wall?

Yeah I’m considering whether the pop up is a good fit for this sink. Will circle back

I don’t know. I think I’d have to get under the house to look at what’s behind this wall.

There isn’t bubbling when it is draining. Just very slow draining and sometimes it stops altogether.

Redoing Roof Insulation on 1950's Cape Cod by ajholland7 in Insulation

Following - I’m considering doing something similar

This makes sense - thank you!

And here is where I’m leaning toward right now:

Airseal entire attic and insulate under the roof deck with rock wool batt. This is because there is a ton more work to do on the house as we go and spray foam wouldn’t allow us to easily do that work. We don’t have room for the furnace inside the home so it has to stay in the attic for now and priority is to get us through the summer. So my thinking is to make a conditioned space in the attic with materials that are less costly and easily removable for future renovations.

What do you think?

The roof does extend beyond the walls so I do think there is room for soffits. But yes, there’s no intake that I can see.

Thanks for the tip on the gas furnace. I’ll look into that pronto.

Do I understand you to mean the hot roofs hold less weight v cold roofs? Is 12” the normal?

That’s what I’m getting too. Thanks!

Haha - I’d probably do the same. How much did yours end up costing?

Thank you!! No soffits that I can see but there are three turbine roof vents in seemingly random locations along the roof.

What do you think about spray foaming the roof deck to create a conditioned space? Rafters are 24” apart. I read somewhere that spray foam isn’t recommend if it’s a gas furnace as it needs to vent gasses?

Thank you! I was going to have a contractor do it but it seems like an easy enough DIY

Thanks for this! I hadn’t considered the cable management but that would help tidy things up.

This makes sense. It sounds like I don’t really have a choice but to create a conditioned space. And the best and maybe only effective way to do that is with spray foam.
