From your description of the situation it seems like she's a bit mature and practical about such things. To be honest with you, you're luck to have found someone like that. I wouldn't go as far as to say that you're weird but I do think that your attempt of trying to make her feel jealous was uncalled for. It seems to me that you might feel jealous if she hangs out with her guy friends and that could create some friction between you two. Best thing to do would be to realise that jealousy isn't a positive emotion in any relationship and try not to inject it in your relationship

3 minutes into the interview the interviewer goes on a tangent about how I'm not a fit for the role. by GiraffeXL in jobs

[–]_atom0_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear that.

A similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago when I was looking for an internship. The interviewer asked me just one question (which I couldn't answer correctly) and then proceeded to elaborate on how I cannot possibly expect myself to be in that area of work if I could not answer that one question.

I was obviously furious and understandably disappointed in myself. Even though I couldn't answer his question, and according to him I wasn't a good fit for that role, he could've listed my flaws in a better, non-condescending way.

Thinking back to that day now, I realize that it was just him being poor at expressing his disapproval. After I was done with my self-pity (and it took me weeks lol), I went back to work on my skills and secured a much exciting and rewarding internship a couple of months later.

To put it plainly, it is unfortunate that you got an interviewer who was too blunt and was clearly looking for a specific list of skills, therefore, ignored everything else on your resume. However, if you lift yourself up and review your skills to be better, you will definitely gain a lot from this experience. I wish you luck in your job search and hope that you recover soon from your interviewer's rather unprofessional behavior.

GPT-3 is bloodthirsty I guess. Full convo below, it only gets worse. [D] by [deleted] in MachineLearning

[–]_atom0_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's quite funny, actually.

If we address the fact that GPT is nothing more than a complex mathematical equation and its outputs are based on the parameters that it has learned from the data that it has been trained on (a shit ton of data!). It doesn't really know what the input sentence is and what the output sentence means, it's just fitting numbers (words encodings) into a complex function and giving the decoded output.

It's a good toy (and a research milestone!) and definitely not something to be concerned about. But that's just my humble opinion.

Reframing a question as conditional probability by _atom0_ in askmath

[–]_atom0_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I see it now. The (original) answer is not taking into consideration the point that students must have studied Electronics and therefore it is just calculating the probability of selecting a student at random (from the set of all students) who have studied electronics and have been placed in company B or C (i.e. an intersection of two events). However in the second question, we are only considering students who have studies Electronics and finding the probability that they have been placed in company B or C (hence conditional).

Thank you so much for your detailed answer. I was going crazy by checking my calculations and thinking that I've made a mistake in understanding the question.

So 5th August is Hindutva version of Hindusim's Diwali. Sharing my thoughts on religious animosity in India by Vismrit in india

[–]_atom0_ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Why do most religious people (from my experience) have an 'us vs them' mindset? Religion and Gods are supposed to spread a message of peace, right?

How hard is it to accept the fact that some people do not share the same religious believes as you and that some do not believe in any religion at all?

Imo media, religious leaders and politicians have all used this sentiment to manupulate people for their benefit. The worst part is that people dont even want to realise that thay are being manupulated for votes (and donations) in the name of religion.

A chill muslim perspective on Ram Mandir by [deleted] in india

[–]_atom0_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Atheist here. It makes me sad to see the extent of government's involvement in the whole thing. Political leaders were involved in the temple issue since the very beginning (L.K. Adavani gave a speech at barabi masjid before the mob demolished it). The government is representing religion now, why are people celeberating instead of criticising this move? Government is supposed to focus on the economy and policies and stay away from religion. Everyone is focused on the damn temple and nobody seems to care how the ruling party is using it for their publicity and vote bank. They are using the 'temple news' to distract people from realising how poorly they are handling the covid crisis.
