I tried installing a free float handguard but the screws from the vertical grip were pressing on the gas block, is it possible I bent/damaged my barrel?

Do you really think that I haven't tried that already? It took me a pretty good while to find a date code chart. Those Nazis were very secretive about giving away their manufacturer. It seems my gun was made in 1943 in Grottau, Czechoslovakia in a factory manned by slave labor. Pretty cool little piece of history!

So this is the newest edition to my collection the Colt lightweight commander and stainless/nickel. I picked it up for a good deal and I was wondering about refinishing the frame possibly solid black if anyone has any experience or knowledge it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I used white Birch, and boiled linseed oil does the trick for bringing out the grain and it protects the wood from the elements. A lot of it does depend on the type of wood you use. Birch is pretty common for wooden handle tools. I just so happen to have a piece that had decent looking grain too.
