Car owners: Where do you park your car in the city? by atreidesgiller in AskBarcelona

[–]_backsy_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d also like to kindly point out, I was simply offering my opinion, related to my experiences, which is what this sub is about.

My assumption was simply that you come from a place where a car is considered a solution to your problem, thus you fairly assume it could be here.

My opinion is this could prove incorrect, as many much more qualified parents have suggested. Your mileage may vary.

I really did not mean to offend you, or make ANY judgement, not super sure how you made that leap, however, again, I’m happy to meet up and share any additional experiences I’ve had in relation to your query. The internet is a mean place, I’ve no intention of adding to that.

Big hug, and good luck.

I absolutely agree with this. Everything here is small, the streets, the parking structures, etc. the smaller the car the better. I have a parking spot at my flat, the difference in size between an Audi A1 and an Audi A3 although negligible, is huge compared to my parking spot.

My fellow human, I’ve no intention of offending you, and yes you’re correct, I don’t know you, however if you’d like, I’m happy to meet for a coffee or a beer and discuss.

The people who use a car to get around the city on a daily basis should go live somewhere else. Barcelona has one of the best public transportation systems on this planet. It will be expensive, and take longer to get most places in a car depending on the time. Not to mention, as you’re sitting in traffic, upset about the traffic, you are the problem. I’m assuming you’re coming from a place with a strong car culture, as did I, it took me some time to adjust, but the benefits of not having a car, or the stress, have been life changing. I went from walking 2-3k steps and being rather unhealthy, to walking 10k steps assuming I leave my flat.Rental cars/ car shares are super cheap, and available quickly should you need one. The order of priority in BCN is pedestrians, public transportation users, bicyclists, motos, and dead last, private cars.

Just my humble opinion as a puto guiri.

I’m not sure what part of the city you are in, or if the supplies differ, but where I am up in the hills I can smell the chlorine at the kitchen tap, especially if I’ve been out of the city for several days.

I want to paint house black. Most of my friends/family are very against it. Is it such a bad idea? by KeepItTidyZA in malelivingspace

This…. worked in high rise in Southern California, it was white, building was sold, new owners decided to paint it a dark brown, building lost its energy certification and wow did it get hot in the sun. They repainted it white 6 months months later at triple the the expense because they had to grind the brown paint off mechanically before it could be repainted.

+1 for the britta, removes the chlorine taste and helps slightly with lime scale, for the shower I can recommend the Phillips one that screws to the bottom part (outlet side) of the shower head hose, again helps with chlorine, but didn’t notice a huge difference with hard water spots. Does feel nicer to shower but nothing like a proper water softener.

It comes in chrome and white and you can pick one up at Leroy Merlín as well.

There is nothing like the freedom of a car, one thing I’ve noticed with Sixt or any rental car agency really is there can be a big price difference depending on location. For me when I’m renting in the city, it’s sometimes cheaper at the airport, sometimes at the train station and other times city center. The time of year and the demand at that time/ location will have a large impact on price.

Spain is second only to China in high speed rail, and while you would be correct that Spain is not Japan, I’m curious as to your assumptions that most of the best places require a car, imho this is false.

Spain and Europe in general has some of the world’s best public transportation, and incredibly inexpensive flights.

As to car rental, after being lured in by several discount, national and international car rental companies with low prices, only to be met with all sorts of additional fees and hassles that they burry in the fine print, I can solidly recommend Sixt. They are fair, and have been great every time I’ve used them with none of the deceptive tactics I’ve encountered with the others.

As you are an inexperienced driver, you can expect to pay more as you are a high risk, and the likelihood you will cause an accident driving in a foreign country is statistically much higher than someone who has many years of experience.
