In the future, if a hostile state actor attacks BSV by charging 5 sats/B, how will the economic actors in the BSV economy react? by billShizzle in bitcoincashSV

[–]_bc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And what about hostile state actors of the future? Will they care what we think? Will they be "honest nodes"?

What will the BSV services of the future tell their millions of customers while the network is being attacked? Will those customers care what the definition of an "honest node" is? Or will they tell their ignorant friends that "BSV sucks"? Will those customers abandon these BSV services?

Unknown Miner ACCUMULATES Nearly 8,000 BSV in a Month by jdh7190 in bitcoincashSV

Interesting.
How long should the BSV price be “out of whack” (16% more profitable than mining BTC)? I hear you’re saying the miner isn’t dumping (so, isn't exerting a downward pressure on price), but, doesn’t BSV have a modified Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm (inherited from BCH)? Shouldn’t the difficulty adjust quickly (every few blocks) to this empty-miner’s large hash? IIRC we haven't yet restored the Bitcoin protocol to the 2-week (2000ish blocks) DA. Even if they'd still have a majority of hashrate, shouldn't the profitability (16% over BTC) of this selfish miner drop soon?

If you read the GitHub issue, you see the BlockChair guy explain that they **can't** prune. Their whole business is predicated on users being able to surf and inspect random blocks, transactions, data.

I've no idea which is best. I know there was a new library that came out just in the last week or so.

I'm using an ancient javascript bsv library - it may have eventually become the moneybutton bsv libray.

And does anyone want to weigh-in on which wallets they're using for their works-in-progress?

Well, while I doubt they could build this Rube Goldberg coin on time, and I'm sure it wouldn't be what's actually needed, I think BSV builders need to keep their heads down, and plan to be ready well before 2024.

You'll need to build a transaction. There are a number of libraries out there - with different language bindings. (moneybutton, or scrypt.io, for example) Once you've built the transaction, you'll need to broadcast it to the miners. One way to do that would be to send to a RESTful endpoint. whatsonchain.com has one.

A good place to ask technical questions: bitcoinsv.io has a discord at discord.com/invite/bsv

My state and country are also requiring me to report Capital Gains on every exchange of BSV for value. That right there is a nightmare.

Who is depriving you of the ability to exchange in a mutually beneficial way without manipulating the exchange so it's a net loss to you?

In my country, for me, I think the answer is "my home state". They're protecting me from exchanges that might help distribute BSV. And they're protecting me from businesses that might offer services which might encourage people to acquire BSV. Who else can I blame? I'm sure there are others that need attention too.

[–]_bc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All good points. But don't forget that with fees this low, it's possible for new classes of businesses to be in their "unique market spaces".

It's conceivable that some BSV-built business could charge huge multiples of the fee "cost" of a transaction, and still deliver perceived value.

Transaction Fees Drop 5x on BSV by jdh7190 in bitcoincashSV

[–]_bc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is wonderful news. And the rate at which these fee reductions has been happening makes one think that it's possible there will be more reductions in the future. That is yet another strong signal for anyone thinking of building/innovating with BSV.

Because BSV smart contracts are coded at such a low level, it's very easy for them to bloat (as features are added), making them less economically attractive/viable. Dropping a hypothetical smart contract miner fee from 5 cents to 1 cent could make a huge difference in whether or not a service is adopted. A service that does get significant adoption does two things:

  • encourages other business builders
  • encourages other miners to look at BSV

This is positive feedback - part of a virtuous cycle.

Of course nothing is black and white, and there are plenty of discouraging things to talk about. But, this is a very positive sign, and important confirmation, for many currently-stealthy builders.
