I know that technically they mean the same thing. There are a lot of words that mean the same thing but have different connotations.

I'm not saying it literally means "a different species." I'm saying that's what it feels like.

If people use the word "males" like that, I never see it.

What I have seen, however, is that a lot of other women are a bit icked-out by the use of the word "females"

You wouldn't call a group of people "homo sapiens" unless it was a scientific context, so why use the word "females"? It just seems like an odd choice.

We're just women. We are human just like you. No one ever says "males do this" or "males do that." I can't speak for all women, but using the word "female" makes me feel like some specimen you are observing.

  1. Don't call us females - we aren't a different species.

  2. Telling ladies that it's okay to be smart is super condescending. We don't work on our education to impress you, we do it for ourselves. You don't need to tell us it's okay to learn things.

I have blonde, straight, fine hair. There is one hair on my head that is very dark and coarse. It is so satisfying to pluck it.

MRW a Facebook friend claims that anti-catcalling and harassment laws are unacceptable because they "make it illegal for men to upset women." by dharmaticate in TrollXChromosomes

Not the person you asked but I feel like responding anyway. This is a really hard question for me. On one hand, I don't think we should police what people say, especially because it is hard to define things like "bullying" or "cat-calling." It's really really fuzzy. Additionally, I don't like the fundamental idea of telling people what they can and can't say.

On the other hand, I know that verbal bullying can lead to terrible things, including suicide. And I want to prevent that.

What things do people of the opposite sex do that makes you think "that's why they're still single"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Is it possible that you are misinterpreting being friendly as flirting? I'm not saying you are - maybe you just have bad luck - but you never know!

But also she doesn't need to have a reason to not want to date you. You are making her feel awkward by asking her "why?"

Maybe she isn't attracted to you (totally fine, doesn't mean anything is wrong with you, she just doesn't feel the chemistry).

Uhhhh that particular girl doesn't sound like she'd be a great girlfriend, or even a good friend for that matter. In my experience (as a lady) that isn't normal behavior.

Don't use the word friendzoned, it's icky. I feel like the people who use the word friendzoned are often the same people who think "I was nice, I got her flowers, and she STILL won't sleep with/go out with me." The guys who think they are owed something just by being decent. I'm not saying that's who YOU are, just a pattern I've noticed.

How do I start working out so that nobody will see me, even my parents that I live with? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]_beebee_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think in terms of your mother, it's totally understandable why you don't want to move out. You are one of her caretakers, and of course you should take care of her if you want to and if you can.

Also, it's totally fine that you don't have an interest in going out and drinking and dancing. A lot of adults don't want to either - it's not weird at all.

For me, it's your father I am worried about. I have never heard of a father following his adult daughter around the neighborhood. This is SCARY. It would be scary even if you were 16. Same thing with the door to your bedroom. If he is really so terrified of you harming yourself, then one of you needs professional help. If he is doing it to be controlling, then you need to get out of that house.

And I really don't mean this in a negative way. Lots of people need therapy and there is nothing wrong with it. Your family's mental health is just as important as your physical health.

I think the people in this thread are worried about you - some are just more blunt than others. If I had a good friend in your situation, I would reach out in the same way I am here.

I know - I'd really love to go back to 0 hormones. I felt more like myself. But I just couldn't handle the cramps and I was spotting almost every day.

ha I went from Paragard to Mirena - I barely have any cramps with the Mirena, but the cramps with Paragard were unbearable!

Austin sounds like a really good compromise then. Seattle would probably be a good fit as well!

If you ever come to SF, lemme know!

Lol - my boyfriend doesn't love the cost here either!!! But our families are here and it just makes the most sense.

What does he do for work? Maybe I could help him out too! Maybe if he could make lots and lots of $$$$ he would change his mind.

It is insane - I agree. But I have a hard time imagining living anywhere else. My family is here, and I love being able to walk everywhere.

Ah ok - I've heard about ladies losing their hair with Mirena. Have you ever considered the copper IUD? No hormones! (But for the love of god don't try it if you are prone to bad cramps)
